Possible 5p-10p/litre petrol discount

  • The links on the site are a direct response to members asking Pipeline to use their 'purchasing clout' to get discounts on other fuels or other motoring products. The website gets dozens of discount offers on all sorts of thing - some of them pretty good deals - but not one has been emailed to the membership as you guys well know.

The two price comparison sites are well respected - Martin uses them - and they do provide a small contribution to Pipeline's costs. Why is that bad? Ben has been funding the whole thing himself for four months and has not had a pennny from anyone. He won't accept ads or banners and he doesn't spam anyone. Apart from Martin, he is one of the most ethical people on I know.

The Dutch United Consumers scheme, which offers discounts on petrol, gas and electricity, took 18 months to set up. Ben's schedule - so far - has slipped by precisely one month. He still expects to have the cards available this Summer. That's less than half the time the Dutch took and he is doing most of it on his own, in his spare time.

There is a big gap between an 'agreement in principle' and a finalised contract and Ben is trying to get the best deal he can for everyone. If this scheme fails, the biggest loser - the only real loser in fact - will be Ben!

When can we have a more direct response to members asking Pipeline what's happening with the original purpose of the site instead of putting back the dates that details will be released, and promoting other companies?

What is more direct than writing to every member, every month with a progress report?

This is precisely how you know that the project has been put back - because we wrote and told you.

Why are you trying to discredit somebody who is trying to help you - and thousands of others - save money on fuel?

I note that in Martin's email of April 12th, this appears to have quietly moved to June/July. Have I missed a Pipeline email? The last mail I have off them (March 16th) says May/June.

    Subject: Pipeline Card Update!

    > Dear Pipeline Card Member,
    >
    > Pipeline Card has been going since November and some of you are clearly getting fed up - and not just with the continual fuel price rises.
    >
    > Emails are coming in every day saying "When are the cards coming?" "How many members do you need now? and "Why the delay"? Well guess what - we're frustrated too!
    >
    > Nothing like this has ever been done in the UK before - it's not going to happen overnight. The petrol discount scheme they set up in Holland took around 18 months to get off the ground. I can certainly tell you that we all want this to work as much as you do - we have spent a lot of time and effort on it. There is a big gap between an agreement in principle and a finalised contract - but we are gradually overcoming some of the difficulties and we are getting closer.
    >
    > I would like to be able to give you much more information but, unfortunately, we are bound by a non-disclosure agreement that carries a hefty financial penalty. So I can't even tell you who we are negotiating with. All I can say for now is that we are making progress, we are still hopeful of an announcement in the next couple of months, and we still need your support.
    >
    > It is just possible that we will need to consider a different way of achieving our goal but the good news is that we have already been approached by another organisation who is interested in working with us.
    >
    > There is other good news too. Thousands of our members have saved money on domestic heating oil this month and others have saved money on gas and electricity by using our price comparison service. It's not our main purpose, but it is a way of giving something back while our negotiations continue.
    >
    > Over 9,000 blogs and websites are linking to us and our media support is still growing. So please keep telling people about us.
    >
    > Rest assured; we are not going to lose sight of what Pipeline Card is all about. It's about all of us paying less for our petrol and diesel. We are definitely not going to do any deals with marketeers and spam merchants; and we are not going to give up.
    >
    > That's it for now. Watch out for us on Fifth Gear - the Channel 5 motoring show - at the beginning of next month.

Paul, I think this is the one you haven't seen yet:
No. That's the one that I received 6 hours after I posted here.

    Strange that.

Given that Martin's mail went out 9 days ago (12th). And the last 'monthly progress report' went out on 16th March....

I note that they've dropped specific mention of months now, instead stating it took 18 months in Holland.

Not about the card there wasn't.
