It must be a very clever con indeed. What profit could possibly be made at the expense of people who are reading no adverts and spending no money?0 -
why shouldnt he be able to make some money off this as well?
because he has not shown us ANYTHING tangible at all. He has yet to actually produce anything whatsoever besides give us empty promises and shove affiliate links at us. Now I wouldn't be bothered had he actually produced some results before crossing over to the dark side, but as it is he has fooled everybody.
If I promised you all £1000 if you gave me your email address and opted in to all of my marketing lists. Then I just spammed you with cleverly disguised affiliate links while you never saw a sniff of the £1000, would you be happy?
No. thats exactly what is happening here albeit slightly less exagerated.
PS, opt out and leave the rest to get 'minted'? rofl the only 'minted' 5p off a litre is going to get you, is of the chewing gum or hole variety.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

I have 7 emails from Ben, and no others sent to the email address I gave. So athough it is a large database, it is not being abused in the manner you allege.

Redux, you'll notice in his most recent emails some rubbish about 'yes I can help you with your gas and electric prices and save you some money! Go here for more information'. That link is an affiliate link to moneysupermarket, which will pay him a couple of pounds per visitor he sends there (I believe, I don't have the exact value but would imagine it to be around there).
as I said, from my guess, if 1% go there (3000 people) that makes him £6000. I think statistics for this sort of activity would lead me to actually expect the volume of people who would go through that link to be about 2.5%. IE up to about £15000.
Now, that looks a lot more interesting. £15k for offering an empty promise. SCAMmell by name...DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

well lets see what happens then, if i pay 5p more buy not generating revenue going through affiliate links ill be pleased with myself,
unless your going to carry a piggy bank and bank 5p for every liter you purchase you wont get minted and assuming you use 2500 liters of fuel a year (i doubt it) you will make £125 in savings ... assuming that petrol stays at a fixed price which less face it isnt going to happen. there are easier ways to save £125 than hanging on a promise while affiliate links line someone elses pockets at a rate much larger. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Roswell - I see that you have saved some money by putting aside £2 coins probably into said piggy bank ! If it is OK to save £2 coins (that are yours already) why is it so bad to save £2.50 on every fill at the petrol station ?To infinity and beyond!0 -

As you don't know the rates it is odd for you to quote.
As you have started - I'll continue in the same vein - assuming 1% click and the payment is 50p per click than it makes £1,500 which is unlikely to have covered website costs let alone time.
Again, why should he not be allowed to make money anyway.
If you don't like sites that have affiliates than don't click the links and remove yourself from the mailing list.

No one has a probolem with this bloke making money off the back of the scheme, afterall he's putting in the hard work, the problem is getting people to sign up to one thing (petrol savings) and then making money off them through affiliate links with no sign of any discount on petrol which is the whole reason for signing up.
In my opinion, he should not be making money in this way until the original reason for signing up is up and running. I.e. "now you have your petrol savings card, how about saving money on your house fuel bills too"
At the end of the day, whats to stop him telling us in 6 months time "the petrol deal has fallen through" and in the mean time he has made his £500,000 from affiliates!

I still have no problem with him having links or ads on his website.
So what !
This is common practice - nobody is forced to click and anybody can remove the referral id if they don't want to use it.To infinity and beyond!0
