or visit your local delivery office
however most of the time this happens(in my delivery office) its down to a postie not knowing a duty and people having poorly/wrongly addressed mail
an unfortunate side effect of regular posties correctly delivering wrongly addressed mail for years
many people dont even notice the wrong addresses

Saying that, We don't see our regular postman for about 2-3 days, And when we do we get about 6-7 letters.

Now, a mate of mine works in a sorting office, He has been there 28 years, And he has told me that some postmen have in the past been 'suspended' for holding up deliveries.

They found one lad had bags of post at home, Which should have been delivered the week before.

So it does make you wonder if sometimes the post is 'stored' for a few days to save worktime by the employee.

I am not accusing anyone here, Just asking a question?

There was once an undercover programe, think it was dispatches on chanel 4 about postmen, not sure if it was last year or before that and it filmed new recrruited postmen not knowing where to go and fail to deliver the mail by getting rid of the mail. But then there are also very dedicated postmen who without a doubt always deliver and is always polite. Last week the postmen that was delivering was wearing normal clothes and not a uniform which caught my attention. It was odd coz he had no royalmail uniform apart from the bag.

You should be glad they do ask for id, i bought a hdmi dvd player off an internet company and got a card saying it had been took to their depot as no-one was in, so off i go with card next day to the depot to only be told it was collected earlier that day, when i took the matter up with the manager, he produces a signed note to say it had been collected that day by someone called mr grumble(of all names). The parcel was in my name and i'm not a 'grumble'. turned out that the person on the desk was new and had given it out without id. Funny though how they knew it was there and they only tried to deliver the day before(i think it was someone from the post).
Luckly for me the internet company sent me another one and are claiming from royal mail for the loss.

is that what the card says?

Not explicitly. If my memory serves me correctly it just says that ID is required for recorded delivery items. My sorting office confirmed this when i asked them.

Guess like most companies, you get a different answer depending on who you talk to.

the card says you require ID and if someone is collecting for you they require ID for you
nowhere on the card does it make any comment on the type of item affecting this

    on the subject of ID
i was helping on the door today and have an SD item in a company name plus a mans name
guy collecting has ID for neither
so starts shouting,oh sorry he said he was raising his voice not shouting when asked to stop
when he refused i just walked off,my days are too long to argue
as he walked off he mumbled he would just get it redelivered

all good i suppose but who in the office do you think sorts out those redeliveries?...........................................
  • Anyone remember that 'looney tune' who got an ASBO for pretending to be a postman, Think it was someone who was kidding themselves.

I looked at the link you gave and it says I have to contact them 15 days after the item was posted. Luckily I have the email from Asda to say the item was sent on the 9th. I also have my application form from the benefits office not arrived, this was also sent on the same date. I hope someone else hasnt got it coz the application form has lots of my personal details as forms are now filled out via phone then sent so you can sign and post it back. My mobile bill has not arrived either. I should of recieved these all on friday, if no post was available then I should of got them saturday. I have had mail yesterday and today but not what I have mentioned. I am really worried about my application form as it also has my bank details on that form.
