As a tinfoil hat wearer I've been meaning to try and get a new passport before the big-brother-esque biometric ones start being issued....I thought I'd missed the boat. Anyone know the score....am I likely to get one if I apply now? It'll still be better than having to get an ID card though I suppose, might as well give myself until 2015 to leave the country:rolleyes:.
  • Rave - as long as it is received by 3rd December Passport office you will get it at the old price, but that is all the grace they are giving, to allow for postal delays.

I'm tempted to get my passport now, but will the new biometric passports provide me with better protection against identity fraud - e.g. someone finds my (lost) passport and does all manner of unspeakable things in my name!

If it will provode me with better protection I think I'll wait and get the Biometric one even if it will cost £9 more.

Also, my passport expired a few years ago. If I apply for one now is this counted as a "first application" and would I have to have the palaver of the "face to face interview"?

My current passport expires in April 07. Can I still apply for a renewal passport (and beat the increase) even though my existing passport still has more than a year left on it?

Yes. Assuming you apply late next week just before the price increase, your new passport will be valid until 30 August 2016 (Nine months is the maximum that can be carried forward)
  • great, mine runs out next year but thanks for letting us know!
  • Only 7 days left.
