I am renewing my and my wife's passports. Also we are getting ones for our two kids (7 and 4). Am I correct in thinking that we need countersignatory's for the kids passports?

Crazy that you can't just vouch for your own kids if you do.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Don't forget that if you are getting on in years ( a little over 76 years old as I make this post) you can get a free passport.

I posted this back in June 2005 and it has been subsequently mentioned in one of MartinsMoneyTips newsletters

    see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=65499

Specifically you have to be a British national and have been born on or before 2nd September 1929.

Does anyone know if i still need to get my photos signed/verified if im just renewing my passport. It ran out last year and ive never got around to renewing it.
  • To many questions here, but here's one more:

My passport expires in 7 months time, so I need to renew asap (I travel internationally and need minimum 6months validity left on my passport for some countries visa requirements).

If I apply for a new passport at the Post Office this week, using my existing valid passport + Application form, will I then be able to use the existing soon-to-expire passport for the 2 trips to Europe I have booked in early December?

    TIA
  • photos don't need to be signed or verified as long as your current passport photo is still a good likeness!

    hope that makes sense!!

if you look totally different now there may be a verification required

this is just another tax on travel, we can't leave this blessed isle without one, we need some other form of travel documentation. I only travel within the EU , this passport lark is a joke.

£51 for ten years' ability to travel? It's hardly breaking the bank!

out of pure curiosity how much per passport does it cost to produce one and also to administer the whole passport system in the UK?

No, you don't need to get passport countersigned if its just a renewal. Mine ran out last year, and I never got round to renewing it until this summer, and just filled out the relevant parts on the form and sent my old passport off to them along with the photos unsigned. Also had to apply for my 2yr old sons at the same time, but that was countersigned due to it being his 1st passport. My eldest son needs his renewing, runs out in april 2006, so I guess I had better renew his now.
