I may as well renew it now though as I can't use it anyway until I've changed my name on it.0 -
mae- bring the expired one with you, yes- even if you take the 7 days you should get it back as it isnt taking that long to return them
meerusta- you can travel on the one you have as long as you book the tickets in that name, if you change, it is full price and they can only add 9 months of the 6 years onto next ppt
bobdauilda- yours and your partners will be fine, 10mnth old has a ppt? fine if he/she has even though they change so fast, new born can have a ppt as soon as born basically, may or may not be biometric but none of them should need to be as they will all have been issued before full roll out- please check with NZ embassy with regards to rules about emigrating, i can only advise on ppts
hope that helps ppl0 -

So she had to go to a lot of palaver to get a copy of her marriage certificate <lives in Northern Isles> and get a new passport in time for her flight.

It seems that for domestic flights with Ryanair, UK nationals need either:
- A valid passport
or
- A valid European Economic Area (EEA) driving licence with photo.0 -
this is just another tax on travel, we can't leave this blessed isle without one, we need some other form of travel documentation. I only travel within the EU , this passport lark is a joke.0

I had a child's passport back in 1996 that ran out in 2001. Since then I just never got round to getting a new one. I'm now an adult and still have my old passport, what I wanted to know is do I have to pay the full price for a new adult passport or is there some special price that you can pay if this is your first adult passport upgrading from a child's one?
Thanks0 -
jammybunn - how is this biometric data being gathered?
I mean, where will this "scan of the passport holder's unique facial features" be taken from? Will it mean having to apply for a passport in person?0 -
technically the child ppt you had issued in 1996- if that was your first and only ppt, could be extended free of charge BUT, it would expire 10 years to the day that it was issued (sometime in 2006) so you would possibly be able to extend it if it was the end of 2006 but other than that you wont have enough validity so youd need to pay for full ten year adult renewal0

pippa, the data is being collected the same as usual- the only difference being that when the photo is scanned onto the system, it automatically markes the center of your eye socket and maps your face around it for future reference (hence the neutral expression) and then it will be stored on a chip in the passport so that when scanned, the authorities can check that the details match those on the picture page to avoid fraud. next year they are introducing appointments for all first time adult applications but no plans for renewals as yet0
