I disagree, I was at Morrisons in Northampton the other week, and they were 2p higher than MK Bletchley.
I'm positive that the arrival of Asda has (finally) dragged prices down.
For me - the marker was always the Shell garage in Roade on the A508 - it always used to be a couple of pence cheaper per litre than Tesco Wolverton... not any more... last I saw, it was 1p/litre higher than Tesco for unleaded (the week before last)0 -
Tesco Bletchley has a yellow price drop sticker on the shelf where their own-brand Thick Bleach is, saying that it's 2 for a pound until the end of Novermber; but that price was still going through the tills today.0

John Lewis' website showes they charge for delivery but if you go to the Milton-Keynes store page, through the site, at the bottom right hand corner it gives a local MK number that you can call to place an order on the phone with what they indicate is an option for free delivery when their van is in your local area. Is this right?0

Hi all!
I am thinking of relocating to MK (used to live there 6 years ago) and will come to stay for a few days next week as I check out housing/schools/jobs opportunities etc.
I would like to know how you are all finding it, is the crime quite bad, traffic at peak times, etc? must say I have missed seeing people around (live in rural Norfolk at the moment) especially young people and nor just pensioners everywhere like here!!...but not missed the 45 minute school drive for just a few miles...suppose it's a compromise really...
Any comments very much appreciated.
would also love to take kids to theathre (wasn't around then..)
Thanks a lot

K,
I think I'm fairly competent to answer this, as I grew up in MK and have seen the city grow around me. However, I left in 1997 to go to University, and then spent the next 7 years moving around the country. I've lived in Nottingham (3yrs), Sheffield (3 yrs) and then Bristol for a year.
I returned to MK last year (2004) and I can honestly say it was like a breath of fresh air.
I grew up in New Bradwell (before it got a bit manky) and went to Stantonbury School. I mention the schools because when I moved back I took at job at the Lord Grey School in Bletchley, and have since been poached by the Radcliffe to do the same there! I have a fair appraisal of all the secondary schools in the area as a result of my work with the two in the last year. PM me if you have any Qs.
> I would like to know how you are all finding it
I'm loving it - and would recommend it to anyone - I'm 26 now and there's so much more for everyone here now than when I left when I was 18. Compared to Sheffield, the public transport is shocking (but I was spoiled up there with a very good bus system and trams). It doesn't better Bristol's bus system either, but my OH and I love the quick trip down to London by train...
>is the crime quite bad
I don't think it is. I feel a lot safer here than I did in Bristol, and I lived on the outskirts of Bristol. Sheffield was also more crime-ridden, but remember that they are two much bigger cities. I now live in Caldecotte which is so quiet and I've never seen nor had any problems in my time here. However, there are plenty of 'dodgy' areas but no worse than each other!
>traffic at peak times, etc?
Now people are going to disagree with me here, but I don't think that MK has any problems with its traffic. I get sick of people moaning about 'congestion' when I used to queue for 45mins every morning on my commute into Bristol!! It does get snarled up around the centre between 8-9am and 5-6pm, busier up the centre around xmas though (I was there this morning and it was ballistic!). I guess it depends where you go and when you go!
My OH is Bristol born and bred, but absolutely loves MK, and can't see us returning to Bristol ever again... we've just bought a flat in Broughton and are hoping to settle here long term. It certainly suits us!
All the best, hope you enjoy your stay next week!

Thank you very much Zoe,
Would you believe it? I used to live in Caldecotte (chase avenue) over ten years ago and it was lovely even then.
I will certainly pick your brains for schools later on (although kids are young in year 3 and 6), especially as I have a place for PGCE with the OU but can't find placement in any school in Norfolk (not strong here on MFL) so that is a further reason to move to Mk with a growing young population.
I'm looking forward to the drive now...

Come to think of it, I've seen the boards up outside the shop front...$17mma wrote:Did not realise they had room in Kingston as the Marks & Spencers has just set up there.
It's next door to Next (!), right on the end opposite the Kingston Tavern Brewers Fayre. Not sure that there's that much of a market there though, really, given that the cahoosive Mothercare World is there.
One thing I do know, it gives me a good reason to avoid the place at the weekends!!0 -
