I sent Music Magpie a consignment of unwanted clothing. All quality brands, hardly worn and perfect condition. They rejected over 60% of them (nearly 70% of the value) for spurious reasons like missing, worn, broken, stained and counterfeit. All complete nonsense. Reading everyone’s similar experiences it sounds like they have a huge scam going on and it is indeed high time they were looked into.
  • I've used them for CDs and not had a problem, all only 30p ones though but fine for having a clear out.

Clothes on the other hand - they rejected every single item I sent them with complete lies about the condition saying they were ripped/marked/stained/broken/buttons missing which was all untrue but as their conditions state, once you've sent them it's tough, there's no arguing with their decision! Any emails I sent were just returned with copied sections of their T&Cs.

    Gah I am worrying now

I used them years ago and got rid of a load of cds and dvds and got the full amount they stated of £171

Just used them again (In laws are taking our boxes to collect plus today) and its CDs, Games, DVDs and clothes, I havent sent clothes before, some of them are designer clothes (Rohan) I am now worried they are gonna claim there is some fault with them even tho they are perfect, I mean they were just gonna go to a charity shop anyway but I hate to think that they have them and dont pay for them and claim to recycle them but then infact sell them on or something.

  • Loaded up about 100 dvds and cd's. Scanned in on my iphone app for a total of £96. Then got the emails saying everything was going through and being checked etc. Next email saying cheque is in the post.

    Cheque arrives for £81?

I check through the order and various items are £0.00 now.

Queried with musicmagpie and they send me a list of the products that they say are "damaged". Including a still in the box and sealed unwatched DVD.

These clowns are nothing short of thieves. Just disgraceful.

I have emailed them back accusing them of fraud.

    They can only get away with this for so long. Either;

    1. Word of similar cases to the above spreads far and wide, and none of the public send them stuff any more, or

    2. Regulatory body (I don't know which) takes an interest, and they get fined, and the publicity ruins them.

    Vote now.
  • I wish I had seen these posts before I tried to sell my CDs with them!! I had 2 CDS that were "missing" & 7 CDs that were "damaged".

They were absolutely fine ie: In good condition & I downloaded them onto Itunes before I sent them off but they refused to pay for them. When I complained they replied:

"We do not pay for items which do not meet the standards of quality checking and the amount is deducted from the overall total.
As per the terms and conditions agreed to at the point of sale, our decision is final and rejected items cannot be returned."

My advice - DO NOT USE!!!!!

My advice is have a look through your CDs / DVDs, check them at amazon / ebay if you think any particular one is worth anything . .then make a decisiion if it is worth the time to sell them privately yourself. Joe Average CD / DVD is worth peanuts, but some have value

Unless you are desperate for cash, take all the ones worth hardly anything to the charity shop, at least you will know they are going to a good cause, and it will save your anger when you have the !!!! taken out of you by Musicmagpie.

I did an experiment, purchased some CDs from the selection in Poundland (using up a voucher which was going out of date), sent them off to Magpie, still wrapped up in the wrapper, only for 2 to be rejected due to damaged discs...

...so it suggests that Magpie are selling damaged goods in poundland.

Also a high-value item (sales rank on Amazon in the millions which I've been trying to shift for 2 years), suddenly becomes available from Zoverstocks, even though it was 'missing'. I wonder what will happen if I purchase the CD from Zoverstocks, and it's the same CD I sent them which they said was missing from the box (which had a small mark on it in an unusual place).

They used to be ok, but nowadays are just a scam of a company, and with the number of adverts on the telly, must want people to send in their unwanted stuff, people are slowly waking up and smelling the coffee of this rip-off company.

If you have any unwanted CDs, which are worthless (selling for 1p on Amazon), donate them to charity, at least someone will be able to use them.
