  • As there seem to have been many sudden
'new' posters who have complimented MM, i thought, as an 'old' user and the 'original poster' that i'd add in a comment. :)
Firstly, its a well known fact that people are much quicker to dive on the internet if they have a gripe, than post about a positive experience.

I've used MM 8 times now and each time, i've received exactly the amount they have said i would.

The courier has been a problem (not turning up when they said they would, then dashing off without giving me a chance to answer the door) but i contacted MM about his via email and it was sorted out, immediately .

The prices they offer is getting ridiculous now with just a few pence for most CDs. although i've had the odd surprise DVD/Game that has been well priced.

I tried to send them clothes (a £140 designer dress, with the label attached) and was offered £2.50  really!!!!??

Overall, i know i'm not going to get much, but i don't expect much. Every cheque has arrived within 4-5 weeks and i've been kept fully up to-date as to where my parcel is.
Overall, the service is fine, mostly, and works well, mostly, :D
and if you do have a problem, the email service is great and helpful.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

The issue is that some CDs are pretty much worthless, they can't even shift them "2 for £1" in poundland.

There have always been bargain-basement new CDs in the likes of Poundland, but that has little to do with, as stated above, MM rejecting and not paying for the rarer CDs that customers send them, only for those CDs to soon appear on Amazon under MMs trading ID.
  • I've used Music Magpie twice, it is quick and convenient but both times they have not given me the fully amount quoted.
I've had several of my items rejected for flimsy reasons that I know to be inaccurate. There is no way of getting your stuff back, you can't complain and their "decision is final".
I can only assume they sell them but I don't see any money.
I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT use Music Magpie again.

Makes a change a newbie not singing the praises of Magpie ;)
  • I am not a Newbie, having been on here a few years ago, just under a different account, (which I can't remember). But I have also fallen into the trap that is Music Magpie. Sent 91 items, for £78.90, and got a cheque for £58.99. They stated that the most expensive item I had, a xbox 360 collectors edition of Fallout 3, with figurine, was worth £15. However, it apparently had damaged artwork and wa rejected. I assured them that, as a collectors edition, it had been treated as such, and was, in no way damaged. Sorry, "No refund" ws the desultory reply. Given that 90 other items seemed fine at approximately 30 - 40p each, I find it amazing that the £15 mint condition item was rejected and "recycled" to use their words. As it was just before Christmas, I am sure it has been "recycled" in to someone elses Christmas present.
Got to say though, I should have known from the beginning as Magpies are known for their thieving abilities.
I was going to send CD's to them, but I wouldn't use them again and would advise all to avoid. They are not trustworthy.
  • I used them about 1 year ago sent them about 60 cds for £29 after 4 weeks they said they had never received them i then had to claim from royal mail and they paid me out,but you most keep proof of posting(which i did by scanning the original postage label) and inform them of all contents in the package and fill out a claims form
  • musicvulture more apt a name for this company, or mobile cash converters...... I see posters talking on here about how well certain CD's can do on amazon etc, well... surprisingly enough, that's how MM think and in your quote they've already priced in their margin by researching the markets

    opportunistic parasites....
  • Music Magpie - scum of the earth making money out of desperate people.

Calling them Vultures is an insult to Vultures.
  • thanks for posting this :)))))
