Music Magpie: new quick way to sell unwanted CDs

Sent off 30 cd's on the 29th of August and just got my cheque through today for the amount quoted (£14.29)
I used the courier service and the whole process went fine.
Yes, it's not a lot, but i've had these CD's sitting on my shelf for years gathering dust and was just glad to get rid of them tbh.
I did sell the odd CD on ebay that i thought was worth more than what MM was quoting and got between £5.00 - £8.00 for them.0 -
Looks like they have ditched Royal Mail and now are using the "Send Shop" network.
Great the closest shop signed up for it is twice the distance than the nearest Post Office from my place of work. Ah well, at least its better than getting rid of worthless CDs in charity shops.
Next to go I reckon will be payments by cheque, they will soon phase them out.0 -
Do NOT sell anything to these people. They only pay 30p for a dvd, which they then sell on Amazon. They offer you a price when you finish the order, but when the cheque comes, it's for a lesser amount. They won't answer emails. I have emailed them 4 times about my cheque. Each time you get an automated reply to say you will get an answer in 48 hours, then nothing. I really feel I have been scammed.0

Unfortunately I'm one of the unlucky ones. I had a confirmed collection last weekend which never turned up. I've had poor customer service in terms of me having to chase up for a second collection date and no explanation as to what the issue was and now finally, my rearranged date for yesterday yet nobody turned up again! It seems the service does work for some people although not everyone. Surely this isn't a sign of a good company though? I realise that mistakes are made but MM seem to be too inconsistant at delivering.0

I had separate failed collections Friday and yesterday (first time I've tried to use MM so still on the starting blocks). I phoned MM after the first failure on Saturday morning and they said if the second failed, they would swap me from Hermes to Parcelforce, and in the meantime they'd email Hermes. I thought the MM guy was quite switched on actually; I don't blame them for courier failures which are out of their control but we'll see if they ever do manage to get a courier to come get my stuff."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Okay, so some people seem confused about Music Magpie...
Musicmagpie turns old CDs, DVDs and games into cash. Music Magpie is a good way to get rid of old CDs quickly and in bulk.
However: monetarily, many people have found that they can get more for their CDs by selling them at car boot sales or selling them directly via various other websites - though clearly there is a lot more effort involved in that DIY approach.
Where CDs are rare or special (promo copies for example) - specialist sites such as eil.com will offer far more than Music Magpie.
The other end of the Music Magpie conveyor belt seems to be Amazon, where MM sells as "Zoverstocks" at about a 100% mark-up (though this varies an awful lot). They have a completely automated selling system which uses the deep features of the Amazon site to almost instantly undercut any offers of the same used CD or video product. This has had the good effect (unless you have 2nd hand media to sell!) of reducing used CD (and video) prices considerably and giving Music Magpie/Zoverstocks a dominant position in the UK's 2nd hand media market.
Because Amazon is used as MM/Zoverstocks primary sales channel, Amazon has also benefited greatly - but Amazon gets some of the plaudits and/or opprobrium for market transformation (HMV etc etc) which is actually due to MM.

Hermes finally just collected my 2 musicmagpie boxes - we'll see how long it takes to get the cheque."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I sent a box of Cd's to them weeks ago, and sent it recorded, and it shows as having arrived, but they still claim not to have got it. Meanwhile I don't have my money and they have all my CD's! Needless to say they have also ignored all my emails too.0

We sent DVD's and GAMES to Music Magpie, all were in excellent condition and we were offered £65 for them, which we received a receipt for. When the cheque came it was for £18 less. When we queried why, MM advised that some of the boxes were empty! As we know that we put them in, this means that either they are telling fibs about what they received or there are issues with their collection services (we left the package with their authorised collection point) or there is theft going on in their offices.
My husband complained and has received no reply, so he is now going to take this to the trading standards and possibly the small claims court.
We sent in good faith and are honest people and after my experience I would not recommend that you use this company as they cannot be trusted with your goods. These were my son's items and he was hoping to make additional money as he is at university, he was cheated out of £18 which is a lot when you are hard up.
We have since found out that there have been many complaints of theft and I believe that it is morally wrong that the company is doing nothing about it, so therefore, we are going to advise forums of our issues and therefore it will be up to each person to make their own informed decision as to risking their goods with Music Magpie.0 -
Hi Has anyone used music magpie to sell clothes? Do you generally get what they offer or do they downvalue items?0
