can someone please tell me if there is a pastry thread somewhere? :j

Sorry zippy, I missed your post. There are lots of threads on making and using up pastry. Can you give me an idea of what you're looking for and I'll find you one that's relevant.

HI Pink! Thanks! I couldnt find using indexes but am still learning them.

Ive never made my own pastry so would like to know how to do that and how to understand the different pastries - how they are formed and what you use them for. Also questions etc or difficulties people normally have . Youre a star!:j
    Also a cheese/white sauce thread?

Also, what is the best way to find threads like this? For Sc stuff i know to look in the sc index etc, but im not sure how yous find threads - is it knowing the exact text of the title, or is there something i can do to alter the search engine that yous do? I like to try to be self sufficient with finding threads and not rely on so much help you see!

I'm sure there was a thread somewhere with a list of slow cooker recipes, but I can't find it for the life of me

If there isn't one, what are your best slow cooker recipes? I have had one for about a month now but all I keep making are casseroles and think OH is a bit bored! :rotfl:

    Thanks x

    Hi zippy,

This link should explain the different types of pastry and how they are used: bbc.co.uk

The easiest one to start with is shortcrust pastry which is the type normally used in quiche and is also good for both savoury and sweet pies. Old Stylers have posted recipes and answers to common problems in this thread: Making pastry Some people make their own puff pastry, see this thread but I don't as it's such a faff. :o

For cheese/white sauce try these threads:

    Cheese Sauce

    Lasange white sauce

How do I make bechamel sauce?

The index threads are great. There were compiled by squeaky who used to bg on Old Style and he spent an enormous amount of time building them up. Unfortunately since he no longer has time to post much they have not been updated so many newer threads are not listed on them. For that reason I tend to use the search function rather than the mega index.

Penny and I read the board almost every day so we are very familiar with previous threads and have a good idea which key-words to use in titles so I think it makes it easier for us to find what we're looking for, but this guide posted by squeaky should explain how we search for things:

I searched but couldn't find anything ( quick search help )

or have a look at the search link in this thread:

    Unofficial A-Z (Look here first)

I hope this helps but if you want to, pm me and I'll 'talk' you through the search function.

    Pink
