Oops, i've already iced the cake so doubt I can freeze it now! I don't think I have any room in the freezer anyway...I may be forced to just eat it all

Yes I do dry them on a drainer but it is clean as is the draining board underneath (i'm a bit obsessed with clean kitchens!) I suppose i'll just have to get into the habit of drying things after i've done the washing up if it doesn't stop.

Thanks for the suggestions though :)

I put my pan rests in with no problems and also the oven & grill shelves. They are vitrious (sp?) enamel. I put the magnetic burners in though and they rusted underneath & I ended up scrubbing for ages with a brillo - grrrr! HTH
  • maybe its the burners i was told about then just thought it meant everything?

though i accedently knocked a hot burner into the washing up bowl and ruined it, it spit and bubbled and now has poc marks on it :(

I've done that too it's so annoying! When I was first married I spent nearly a year with burns on my arms from getting stuff out of the oven with my arms too high lol!

I want to make the jamaican ginger cake here:

Usually I use half wholemeal/half white but I'm out of regular white cake flour and only have self raising flour. Could I still use this? I'm concerned because the recipe does not call for baking powder - only bicarbonate of soda. I think if I make 100% wholemeal everyone will probably complain.

As far as i know, the only difference between self raising flour and plain flour, is SR flour has a small amount of salt and baking powder added.

Myself, when i make fairy cakes, i use SR flour, and baking powder combined and never had a problem

Also , the carrot cake i make uses SR flour and Bicarb of soda - and it is perfect!

There is always a slight chance it could go wrong, but i would risk it! Good luck!

Let me know how you get on, that recipe looks yummmy!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
