I mean, could I refill it with normal beans that come in a tin, or are the heinz beans made out of something special to make them last 5 days?
At the back of the jar it says not to refill with food, which makes me think that the jar will only accept heinz magical beans or something haha. It seems weird for them to write on the jar not to refill it. *confused*zippychick wrote: »Personally in my fridge beans keep for 4-5 days, magic container or not.
My theory would be that Heinz don't want to run the risk of someone not washing the magic beans container properly, re-filling it with other food, and then getting food poisoning because of the traces left behind. Or finding that food goes off.
But I must confess that I haven't read the instructions on the Magic Beans container, and I would probably have ignored what they said in any case. If you're worried but you WANT to re-use your magic beans jar, consider sterilising it, using the stuff you'd use for baby bottles or whatever home brewers use to clean their bottles before they put beer into them. You could try filling with boiling water but that might melt it.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Can I make apple sauce with eating apples? I want to serve it with roast pork. Whenever I've made it before I just made it up as I went along and it never came out right, so recipe/method would be great.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Do you mean those jars which allegedly have five portions of beans in? I bought one for each of the boys for their stockings last year, but I'm not sure they were that impressed. One of them has definitely ended up back in my store cupboard! I suppose it might disappear when they go back to Uni again. And before zippychick has a go at me, I'm sure they were on offer.
In my fridge, they keep until DS2 sees they are there. At which point, they're gone! :rotfl:

Thank you both for the help, haha at you both calling them magic beans too.
I got them when they were on offer too, I think they were less than £1 for the jar, and I wouldn't buy them if they wern't on offer as I agree they're expensive!
I always thought beans just lasted a day or two in the fridge, I'm sure that's what it says on the tin, maybe I should stop paying attention to what tins tell me!I got some bottled water and even that says on the back not to refill the bottle.
I must sound like a bit of a weirdo now, reading what it says on bottles of water! I don't usually, it was a green coloured bottle and I was wondering why it was a funny colour.
Thanks again for the help.I'm a money wasting expert.

With a little further research you can probably find out what sort of plastic the magic beans jars are made of!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
BTW, the water bottle was green because you're supposed to look at it and think "that's a very exclusive colour for a water bottle, most water bottles are clear, obviously only very discerning people drink from green water bottles, I must buy some." There's a blue water bottle too, can't remember who does that one, or maybe it's glass.Signature removed for peace of mind0
