i'm pretty sure i read somewhere u can't refreeze something thats been defrosted in the microwave not sure how true it is tho (think it was on here) i don't defrost stuff in the mircowave anyway, most stuff defrosts if set out over night maybe abit longer for a roast ect
i would just freeze a whole cake i've never tried cake mix but i'd imagine it would seperate when defrosting or just be too watery
and yes you can defrost meat in the mircowaveDEC GC £463.67/£450

freezing q cakes and biscuits
You can defrost chicken and mince in the microwave. Personally i don't as it's a fine line between defrosting and cooking in a microwave but everyone will have their own view on this
My rule on refreezing meat is as follows
Once it has been defrosted it's only ok to refreeze once it's been cooked ie changed state. So i would say it's ok . I personally aim for cooking meat once and reheating once
eggs eggs and more eggs should help, as should freezing eggs
i hope this all helps and ill merge this with quick questions later
thanks

I was wondering if their was a thread that dealt with Old Style money saving alternatives..it would be good to have these collected in one place?
For example, Old Style alternatives for:- cleaning products
- baby products
- hair products
- entertainment
- etc etc etc
- old baking pans
- old chocolate tins
- old coat hanger
- etc etc etc
Actually could split this into 2 threads
1 people requesting an alternative to something e.g. washing powder
2 people requesting a use for an old item e.g. old coat hangers
suspect this has been covered in many threads already though...just a thought0 -
Hi all
I want to make a pecan pie but it calls for corn syrup. Can I use golden syrup instead or will I have to get some from Amazon?

I can't see that there's much to be gained by defrosting mince in the microwave: it doesn't save much time on cooking from frozen. Usually I buy it free flow, but if there are trays reduced I just divide into useable sized portions and scrape the layers off as they cook IYSWIM.
chicken: you can roast small portions from frozen, and you can boil them for 20 mins from frozen too. they are tricky to defrost in the microwave without part cooking, and again I don't think it saves any time!
but I'm usually slow cooking that kind of thing, so I prepare veg the night before, lob it all into pot with frozen meat on top, give it all a good stir in the morning and switch on.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Hi Everyone,
I am having a real brain block at the moment.
I have a friend coming round in about 4 hours and I want to give her a home made something to say thank you for doing a favour for me.
I have 3 eggs and no butter/ marge or milk but should have more or less everything else to make cakes, biscuits or sweets.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
