I was given a bottle of Cava at Christmas from work, but I don't really drink. Would it work as a substitute for wine in cooking? I know it's fizzy, but can I leave it to go flat and then use it?

Don;t see why you couldn;t use it :) Don;t worry about the fizziness - it will all disappear on cooking

Can anyone point me in the direction of something I can make to take into work on my birthday please? It needs to be cheap to make for 30-50 people, suitable for someone on a very low fat diet for medical reasons, numerous other staff members on slimming world or weightwatchers, diabetics who control their condition through diet, and a treat (so not a meal!). Usually people supply chocolates or boxes of biscuits which obviously isn't popular with those on diets! :rotfl: Last year I supplied fruit - but it cost me nearly £15 (it goes in 2 separate places) and I can't afford that this year. :( Plus my birthday is a Friday, so if it doesn't get eaten it will have to be binned. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I've no idea at all what to make :(
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!
  • What do you think about using brown basmati rice with a best before date of 2009? Use it or bin it?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

If you ever drop your mobile phone in water, put it in a tub with the (uncooked!) rice, it'll make it work again. That's what I did with my out of date rice thanks to the advice of MSEers. :D:rotfl:
