I love mozzarella and it comes in plastic packs in water - is the water useful for anything?

I am thinking it must have taken some of the flavour from the cheese so might be good to add to pasta dishes?
  • Cheese sauce :)

I think this might be a frugal step too far for me. :)

I've seen on some cookery shows that they use the 'rind' from a parmesan cheese to flavour soups like minestrone, maybe you could use the mozzarella water for that? Although it's quite a mild creamy cheese so I doubt it would have a massive impact on the flavour. Cheese sauce is a good idea though.

  • I think you might have to reduce it down to about half a teaspoon's-worth to get any discernible flavour out of it!

It is worth keeping the water in a small bowl and returning any cheese you don't use immediately to it for later, well covered n cling film I rarely use half a mozzarella but I'm told there are people who do have some restraint!
