Hi, I'm new posting to these boards but have lurked for a good long while.
I remember ages ago (I may well be talking years) seeing a recipe for a basic homemade tomato pasta sauce. Now I've looked on the recipe indexes and searched and I know I'm missing something but I just can't seem to find one!
I'm not quite doing the Grocery Challenge but am looking at what I buy grocery wise and seeing if I can do it cheaper. I figured making sauces rather than buying Dolmio, Ragu etc was bound to be cheaper and typically I now can't find the recipe I remember.
Could anyone point me in the direction of such a recipe? I'm willing if not eager to batch cook and freeze it.0 -
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I am hoping someone can help me.
I want to make this diaper bag... can anyone suggest what fabric I should use? Is Canvas in the UK the same as Canvas in the US, as it is a US pattern?
Thank you

Hello Jeanie
I don't know where the exact recipe you're referring to is, but tomato pasta sauce is really easy to make.
My basic one is to finely chop a bit of garlic, fry it in a splash of oil for a few seconds, then add a tin of chopped tomatoes, plus a pinch of dried or fresh herbs and some salt and pepper (depending on how sharp-tasting the tinned tomatoes are, you might need a pinch of sugar, too). Let it simmer for a few minutes until it's slightly thickened, then it's ready to use. This makes enough for about 2 - 3 portions for me - if you need more than this, or you want to batch cook, just use more tinned tomatoes.
If you want different flavours, you can use different herbs, or add other veggies, or some bacon or salami, or some chopped chilli for a spicy version, or... all sorts of things, really!
I hope this is helpful.Back after a very long break!0 -
I can't help you myself but try asking in the Sewing Room on the Special Occasions & Celebrations board. They make lots of bags in there so someone should be able to help.0

CCP - if that's not the recipe it's suspiciously like it, and exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you very much. Thanks also for the suggestions of variations - my little brain's now ticking over thinking of variations I could do!0

as you have your answer, I have merged this with the quick questions thread
I would probably use the veg to add bulk to something - so i would mash it up and add it to a soup which already had plenty of flavour
thanks
