    Hey all

Can you hard boil eggs in a microwave? If so, how do I?

My hob has been taken away for repair.

    Cheers

    Hi Flutterby :)

I don't think there's a specific thread about it in Old Style, but here shows how you can do it. Do report back - would be interested to know if it works!

I wonder if there is any hope for my son's toy which was mistakenly stored away for months with old batteries inside. It's been brought out recently and the old batteries have now damaged the slot and new batteries won't work.

Hubby seems to think caustic soda may work if rubbed gently but he hasn't tried yet. Is this so? Is it safe? or just junk it and get a new one?

The new batteries probably aren't making an connection because the gunk from the old batteries is interfering. I'd try cleaning with some wire wool. I think it'd be safe to do and, as the toy's already broken, you wouldn't be making the situation any worse.

I'd like to make some individual shepherds pies using foil pie tins.

(Pastry base with mince & onion filling and mashed potato on top).

I've never baked with foil before and would like to ask should I bake blind the pastry before adding the mince/mash?

Never heard of a Shepherds Pie with a pastry base before! I'd say it would need to be baked first or it will go soggy.

I'd second the blind baking first and I'm another who's never heard of a shepherds pie with pastry, but I expect it will taste good though!

    It's only a game

Shepherds pie has never had a pastry base to my knowledge but if you are doing it like this I'd try baking it blind first, but I still think it will go soggy to be honest

    Hello
Just wondering, for those who bake, if you freeze cakes (individual or a large cake) do they taste the same when defrosted? And how long do they generally take to defrost?
    Thanks

    Hi Pauley

Freezing qs- cakes and biscuits should help you. I have found HM cakes to freeze perfectly :)
