morganlefay wrote: »Idiot washing machine question: when I do my blindingly hot wash with washing soda to make the machine not smell nasty can I add a bit of detergent and some white linen teatowels and perhaps a white bath towel ? It seems so wasteful to run it empty, but perhaps the soda will destroy fabric ?
i am sure the soda only will be fine. not so sure on putting your white linen teatowels in....they will shrink i think on a boil wash.family of six - grocery challenge - £480 monthly0 -
I always boil my linen teatowels in a large pot on the stove. Haven't had any shrink yet and I actually bring the water to the boil, whereas washing machines tend to be 95 degrees.
I guess it depends if they're actually linen or have some special finish. If they're the Irish linen type with glass cloth written on them or a blue or red stripe then they're usually fine. The only thing I've ever had go wrong is that the thread in the hem came awry - probably from me bashing it about with a spatula.
Your white bath towel will probably be max 60 degrees though. Have a look on the label (if it's still legible).
I also boil up dishcloths and white linen napkins and tablecloths. Gets every last stain out!
(As you can imagine, this is not something I do on a weekly basis - too much effort, as I then starch them as well to crisp Victorian perfection - our everyday napkins by contrast are a) coloured b) have washed-in stains and c) are very badly ironed. Much more achievable!)0 -

Add some raw potato chunks - you can discard later.
Plain yoghourt if you have any might help too.
Tricky if you're ready to eat it now and don't have the plain yog ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Anyone know if George Foreman grills are suitable for cooking panini please? Me muvva is addicted to the ones our little cafe does, but I thought a GF would be of more use to her than getting a separate panini machine. Mind you, I only know how to eat them so am assuming they are easy enough to prepare
Thanx.

Can't see why it wouldn't be, although I don't have one myself.
Went to the official GF site, and found this recipe, so clearly it would be!
If you look at the range, you might want a Grill and Melt one, which says it is good for paninis.
Very easy to prepare, they are just flattish rectangular bread rolls, but it's a particular kind of bread and you then use fillings of your choice. So as easy as a toasted sandwich. Not that I've ever done more than eat one, you understand.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
