Hi Seabright.
Pleased to hear someone else with Sunday Best Syndrome! I have clothes, shoes etc in the house expensive when bought and so kept for best but when the special occasion came round - never wore them as I never had anything to go with them, or I needed to lose weight to get into them etc. Ended up giving them away or ebaying them for a fraction of their original cost...talk about false economy!
Trying hard to buy what I need and to wear/use from day one!0 -
Hear hear, I'm a terrible 'Sunday Bester' and hoarder. I have two of most things in life. But I am trying not to do this, to use things and enjoy them, and then throw them away/recycle/charity shop them. I am finding it hard, though, so if anyone has any motivating tips they'd be very welcome !0

My thing is 'I cant throw that away, I might need it' and the trouble is, I often do.
When I was younger living at home, my mum had loads of stuff filling 2 sheds and 3 garages, and she had no money, and we very often DID need our hoarded stuff to fix things (and bodge things!) because we couldnt pay for anything. I have a distinct memory of 'fixing' her car exhaust by cutting open beer cans and wiring them round the broken part... . So I find it hard to get rid of it because of previous experiences.
Ive kept a small broken trampoline because the metal bars look usefull! I also have a double bed frame, single bed frame/matress and a cot & matress, a rustic wooden high chair, a rocking chair and a wrought iron table, a broken piano, ironing board, pushchairs, toys, clothes, ornaments, books, breadmaker, facial sauna, old crockery - infact, I could turn the shed into a bedsit, theres just about everything needed to start another house!!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
Both of these habits are leading me to spend more than I need to and have more stuff in my house than I need to, so I'm starting this thread to motivate me to use stuff up, freecycle it or chuck it out if I can't do either of the first two.
Well done :T We have an existing thread on decluttering, so I'll merge this thread so that you can join everyone there

Now I take something out to tip/charity shop every time I leave the house - doesn't have to be a big thing or even a bagful just as long as some piece of clutter leaves the house I'm happy.
Found 5 rucksacks/bags in the airing cupboard the other day, gone! Unwanted electrical goods, gone. My friends think I'm mad giving away so much stuff but I don't want to end up like Steptoe & Son!

Afternoon everyone!
It's mostly been "out" for me this week:
More newspaper recycling than the rest of the street put together
Bottles/jars to the bottle bank
Three boxes of stuff sold at a boot sale with the reminder going to the charity shop
Lots of ebay sales (no amazon sales whatsoever?!)
Some bits and bobs on freecycle - could not believe the demand for it!Overpay!0 -
Quick update. Will hopefully get a little bit more done this weekend
IN:- nothing :T
- TV aerial from inside loft (had new external one fitted) via freecycle
- Odds and ends of stock/ raw materials sold via yahoo (all at cost or below) as I'm not doing many craft fairs this year. Prefer the cash (even at a loss) to stuff sitting in my garage - being put towards fund for holiday spending money
- 1 paperback to my mum for her to read

I've still not managed to minimalise my bedroom but it is a work in progress..
I got another pile of junk out.. the 6 binbags were taken to charity shop last weekend and hopefully I'll actually be able to get myself organised enough to have floor in the remaining 1/3rd of the room.
I also need hubby to sort through his clothes and I need to sort through mine, I am sure between us we can fill another binbag of stuff to go. I have to get this box of stuff to my sister as well.. and I have 3 binbags of odd socks and knickers and bits and pieces to sort through.. and I have 6 small boxes stacked in the doorway filled with miscellaneous gibble!
I have my new cooker too so I have an old one to leave ASAP and if anyone lives nr Hull and wants a tumble dryer.. I have a condenser one going begging..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
