Well done everyone for your efforts and progress!

I have finally decided to really tackle the office. Some of the longer term members will recall that my office was a pigsty, however, it isn't quite as bad now, as I had to make room for OH and his desk.

Consequently, although I cleared lots of stuff via ebay and freecycle late summer last year, the remaining stuff sort of got pushed to my side of the office (OH's side is nice and tidy :o ).

Included in this pile of stuff are six carrier bags of receipts (yes 6!) which I needed to process for my accounts which are due this month. So, I have been ploughing through these, sorting them into month order so I can start the accounts. I am halfway through and took a quick break to add to the thread!

Other jobs to do in the office - thin out the hanging files, shred and/or recycle the paper from these. I have been wanting to do this for a while, but never found the time  Clearing one cupboard has produced a box of paper recycling and two carriers of shreddings for the compost.

More ebay! I am charging up the batteries for the camera as I type to do this.

Freecycling. I have stuff which I know won't sell so I just have to bite the bullet and let it go (FLING - as Pigpen would say!)

4 PCs to rebuild! This will help get the office in order as I have trailing flexes all over the place! This includes my Mum's PC that is desperately slow. I am rebuilding my inlaws PC as I type too.

    See, multi-task-decluttering!

    Oh - nearly forgot:

IN - New flatscreen TV that OH bought - still boxed at the moment until we can work out whether it will go on the wall or get a stand for it.

Keep up the good work everyone!!!:D
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    OUT:

Flipping loads of stuff as the decoraters are coming next week and rooms are being cleared! Why on earth I have 10 empty foolscap ringbinders is beyond my comprehension. Had to shred almost a ream of used paper containing names and address of people so couldn't even just dump in the bin. Could open a stationery shop with the number of pens/pencils in the house. Gave a load of unwanted toiletries to the homeless unit again.

    IN:

a Breville TR40 sandwich press :j have been looking for one that doesn't have the funny shaped depressions in and doesn't need the bread buttered or oiled on the outside and now found it. Just flat plates which are non stick, toast without burning and no greasy aftermath (and low fat too) so really happy with that.

Now to sort out the knicker drawer. Found 32 pairs of new/unused ones lurking in the back of a cupboard so will now look to throw out the ones which are comfy, grey and got slack elastic!!

Hello everyone - may I join in? I really have to..... if decluttering does not become my major occupation (after work-work and cooking) things are looking grim :-) Here's from the last 2 days:

OUT: 2 Christmas trees (indoors and outdoors one) and all the Christmas cards received.

IN: an entire Berlingo-load containing items from my late mother's flat: complete china dinner service for 12 including cups & saucers, tea/coffee pots, serving dishes   , huge clock, bureau with chair, countless bits and bobs....

The only way to fit it all in is to let other things go - we've just had the same a year ago after DH's parents passed away and I have not even dealt with that lot properly yet. Note no charity shops here in France, and the nearest Freecycle is 1.5 hour drive away so no good either. Plus a lot of the stuff to throw out is in a VERY cold attic and outbuilding (was -17°C here last night).

Rant over. Now have to do it in 'babysteps' as the Flylady says, and spend a little time decluttering every day. Hopefully posting it here will help.

  • Hello everyone. May I join too? I'm very cluttered! Will be interested to know where you fling the china dinner service, champys. I inherited a really nice one 5 years ago and it's still here, unused. It's just surplus to requirements.

Room for another one? If I promise to throw things out to make space?

I have made a start on clearing out the house. We rattled in this place when we moved in, and have been filling it up stealthily ever since.

So far I have been eBaying and Amazoning my spare stuff, and aim to have paid for our summer holiday out of the proceeds by the end of January. I have a final target of £160 to make up the full amount, and am having a motivational lacuna (in other words a fit of lazyitis) about listing on eBay.

This week, the in and outs are as follows:

    IN
    - bag of catalogue sale clothes bought from birthday prezzie money
    - magazines - now read twice & recycled

    OUT
    - half a bag of catalogue sale clothes (think my top half has shrunk more than I imagined)
    - recycling - two large cardboard boxes full of card, loads of cardboard tubes from wrapping paper, 3 big bags of magazines, one trug of plastics, one large bag of glass
    - one bag of jumble to my MIL for her next sale
    - dodgy broken Christmas decs
    - one Amazon sale

I see mention of a capsule wardrobe as a new year's resolution. That's a cracking idea, and one I shall keep in mind when next ferreting in my dressing room for eBaying items.

Btw - love the "bedsty". Don't have one of those, but definitely have an offsty, which is next on my target list.
  • Finally got the cupboard under the stairs completely sorted

    In
    Nothing! Hurray!

    Out
    Several tiles covered in wd40
    Old boxes for speakers
    2x Old pillows
4 tins of dried out paint
    Ripped laptop bag
    Leaking wax spray
Sheet covered in leaking wax spray
    Dreamcast & Gamecube to freecyclers
old smelly falling apart trainers (OH's)
Paint brushes covered in dried paint and oil
spare tub of grout to freecyclers
3 old coats to clothing bank
5x soft toys (because I'm an adult!) to freecyclers
selection of dvds and audio books to freecyclers
2 car head rests for car we don't own anymore

Dining room is completely decluttered now just needs a clean. Next stop OH's collection of sports equipment and clothing
