Morning all! and an extra special welcome to Jaynnie, I hope your having lots of fun on the boards to distract from the owwies.
I (hopefully) have my first ever freecycle pickup today, have a box of books that have been lying around the bedroom floor since I attacked the bookshelves months ago, but I don't drive so getting them to the booky type charity shops is hard, so I stuck on them on freecycle, it was so exciting (God, am I ever sad). So I should have a clear path of floor in the bedroom this afternoon, now to work on the rest of it...
Also got some Christmas shopping to do today, mostly wandering for final inspiration, but if I spot anything I will be buying.....hehe Christmas!!!!
On the frugal eating front, we've been running down freezer stocks (another area needing more space) and I'm getting to close to defrosting point, finally.
:j :j Hope everyone is having a fun filled MSE type day:j :jNow MARRIED!11/09/100 -
Good morning all,
Hoooorah, my internet is back, just been enjoying catching up with you all:D.
Mrs M, your blanky is beautiful. I am very envious of your creativity:T:T:T
Ceridwen, hope things work out well as you shape your new life exactly as you want it, you really deserve that :A. As for the blog, I know, it is most peculiar to have this funny ole reaction! It's like i've given myself a phobia! I think I might ask Mr Weezl to take those pics off for a bit, and then I can return! I think it was the first day I felt nausea and dizziness, and my brain has somehow linked it to the pig! As a vegetarian, I'm sure you approve of the way my psyche is working!:rotfl:
Muscatjane, hello there, and welcome, I see from your calculations that you are a fellow nutritional geek!:beer::beer:. Marvellous! And moving to Wales too! We must start a club...:D
Welcome too, to Jaynnie, so glad you posted.
sure I've left some peeps out, sorry! JTB now you're having fun with your slo-cooker, can I recommend a chilli? I'm batch cooking a big one today, but substituting baked beans for kidney beans and oats and lentils for bulking, so I think it should be super-cheap!
I think I need to do a little more nutritional research about fatty acids and pregnancy. After a lifetime of skin and hair that seems to moisturise itself, I am suddenly a bit more dry than usual. I'm wondering if Fergus is requiring my fatty acids, and therefore there's not so much for me...
Will pop back with more thoughts on this, may be of interest to anyone with dry skin/hair.
Love to you all,
Weezl x

Hello everyone. Lovely to see you back weezl! Welcome to all the new people. Very nice place to be this here place, yes indeedy!
Well, have started making a dent in all those apples!! Have made one batch of apple jam, smelled lovley. Did applesauce in the slow cooker overnight, brown but tastes nice. I did end up putting in jars like I do jam, they have all sealed but not sure how long they will keep. Any thoughts anyone???
Going to make two different kinds of chutneys and another batch of jam as well and then slice and freeze whatever apples are left! Boss said i can have more if want them but dont think I will need anymore!
Also, on a different note. I passed my driving test today...so look out!!
Have a great afternoon everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Phizzimum... there wasn't a recipe -i was "concocting again" :rotfl: but I made a rough mental note of what went in
he he! I do that too - then find I can never recreate the recipe again. Thanks for writing it out for me, it looks fab. And it's lovely to see your blanky growing - it reminds me of the hungry caterpillar getting bigger and bigger!
Munchki - well done!
Weezl - good to have you back... I felt very sick when pregnant with the phizzies - DH had to stop wearing his favourite aftershave because it always reminds me of that time, so an aversion to certain photos is not unreasonable.weaving through the chaos...0 -

Hi
Well the thought did cross my mind wondering if MuscatJane is an altar ego of yours (or you had found yourself another computer and were sleep-posting, as opposed to sleepwalking):D
Awww...thanks for those comments .....might help me kick my !!! into gear for those weekend jobs - some of which are urgent....gets a bit hard to get motivated sometimes when I feel like I've used up my stock of oomph just forcing myself through keeping going at w**k at t'moment....not a lotta oomph left for ME at t'weekends right now.
I'd be glad of any info on stuff to do with dry skin - just think Sahara Desert:cool:
Anyways - take care of yourself and Fergus.
love

Yay, freecycler came, on time. :T :j and she was lovely!!!
I've also managed to pick up a few bits for chrimbo, aswell as tidy up and launder (clothes). So I'm happy with my productive day. Making a roastie tea for when other half gets in, I feel all organised, go me!
I'll be interested in fatty acid info, I love reading your geeky findings. Now MARRIED!11/09/100 -
Thanks for the welcome Weezl - still playing catchup, but work got in way today  . Yes, I'm a label reader and scrutinise everything before I eat/cook it. Find it all fascinating. I found a good (used) book on Amazon that I'm enjoying at mo - 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth by Jonny Bowden. Gives nutritional profiles of fruits and veggies. I also flirt with a raw diet from time to time and want to get meeself a dehydrator when I return. I saw a prog where Alissa Cohen (I think) made a huge square of dried banana and cut strips of it for snacks and I thought "I want me some of that". I've already joined a local freecycle and keeping an eye out for bargains. Bringing back a few of my own, mind you - big tagine pots that are great for slow cooking. Some things out here (Oman) are great quality, like dried spices (fab cardammon) and nuts, and the range of lentils and pulses is huge. I saw something the other day that I use a lot and thought of the board at the time (see how you've percolated my consciousness already?): urid dahl, which for the uninitiated is lentil flour. Gluten free and great for making quick soups without all the soaking, and for thickening sauces. Also good for mixing into bread flour to add protein and fibre (**rt).
Hoping to start an organic veg garden on rich loamy soil too, and can't wait to start foraging :j :j :j .
Ceridwen: alter ego? Im not worthy LOL. Btw, there are a couple of sites, but I think Weezl said she had already found one, one is Fitday , that will do nutritional calculations if you plug in the ingredients. I used to use it before I developed a spreadsheet.
Had nice day's eating: Blueberry porridge slice for brekkie, some of Weezl's (I think, apologies if wrong), bean salad and hm seed bread with tapenade (yum), then a millet slice before lentil stew with brown rice and sweetcorn for dinner (all small portions as on diet. Will be **rting for Muscat tomorrow, no doubt.*Coming home to Wales :j - counting down: 8 weeks :-)*0 -
HI ISOM: moving to South Wales to take up new post. Been in Muscat for 4 years (long enough) and time for a change. Wanted somewhere really rural so I can live the country life :cheesy: , and be in the same part of the world as my two sons, the youngest of which has just started uni.*Coming home to Wales :j - counting down: 8 weeks :-)*0

Another thing I make a lot of, and which is a hangover from my interest in raw foods, is a copy of the Lara Bars. We get big slabs of date paste out here which is basically 1kg of pitted dried dates smooshed together, no added sugar, for about GBP 1.30. I peel off a hunk of this, put it in the FP and whizz with a little water and vanilla and then add whatever I have in the cupboards at the time, along the lines of nuts and other flavourings. I have tried toasted coconut and cherry, walnut (very good), pistachio and cardammon (lovely), chilli, lime and GQ chocolate powder. Scrummy made into truffle balls and rolled in cocoa, coconut, etc., or shaped into a rectangle and cut into (small) bars. Nice chilled in fridge, or in freezer. Doesn't set rock hard, maybe because of the high natural sugar content.
Some of the flavourings are storecupboard standbys, and the dates are often on offer at H&B and JG. Doesnt need much in the way of nuts, etc., as the date is the dominant flavour. I want to try apricots as the base next. Now they would be little powerhouses.
