Ceridwen and ISOM: Muscat is in Oman which is south of the UAE (OK, it is south of Saudi Arabia, but that bit tends to scare people). 1 hour flight, 4 hour drive from Dubai. Was there last week for an Ikea shopping expedition. We are on the edge of the Indian Ocean :-) - so lots of swaying date palms, etc. But far too hot to have a veggie patch so looking forward to all the rain in Brecon! (I know I will live to regret that last comment).*Coming home to Wales :j - counting down: 8 weeks :-)*0

Just calculated the fruit truffle recipes with pistachio and cardamon using JG and H&B, although it may well be cheaper using a large supermarket, or finding an Asian or Middle Eastern store. The pitted dates are on offer at JG at present for 2.49 per kg. I used about 200g in my recipe, so this is 50p. The pistachios are 2.99 for 200g (steep), but I used about 50g, which is 75p. Three pods of cardamon are about 5p. The total is GBP 1.30 and I get about 12 20g truffles from the mix: so approx 11p per truffle. Bars would be about 22p each, I reckon. Below is the nutritional profile per truffle.*Coming home to Wales :j - counting down: 8 weeks :-)*0

I also have a chicken brick, chicken is really tender and moist in one of these, cost us £20 from habitat some 10 years ago. I'll admit I've not been very adventurous with it though, only ever done a chicken with garlic, wine and lemon juice. Baked some rice seperatly and then stirred the juices into the rice before serving.DC.

have this "lemon layer pudding"
serves 4- grated rind and juice 1 lemon
- 50g butter
- 100g sugar
- 2 eggs seperated
- 50g SR flour
- 300ml milk
- add lemon rind to the butter n sugar and whisk until light n fluffy
- add egg yolks and flour -and beat well
- stir in milk and 2-3tbs lemon juice
- whisk egg white until stiff, fold in and pour mixture into a butered oven proof dish (they don't give measurements but it looks like a glass 2pt loaf tin)
- stand it in a shallow bath of water
- place in 200c/400f/gas 6 and bake for 45 mins
- it will seperate into a sauce n sponge
