    Hi everyone.:hello:

I know this is very sad but we've just been and bought a new freezer. :j It's only a cheap and cheerful under the counter one but its enough for the 2 of us and our rented house is really diddy.

I've been without a freezer for the last couple of months since we moved and boy have I missed it. You don't realize how expensive it can be cos all the big packs and markdowns all are too much (unless you eat the same thing for a week) then hopefully I will be able to cut down on my expenses, I don't think I can manage 50p a day but I'm going to try and cut back as much as pos and see how I do

Now I've got to be patient cos it has to stand for 2 hours before we turn it on and then I'm going to pop down to the Coop in the morning because they mark bread and a lot of bits down early in the day because they close at 4 so I'll fill up with cheapies like bread and milk till I afford the more expensive stuff. I thought I'd also try and do double of most meals and freeze over the next few weeks

Its amazing how easy to please I am these days. In our pre BR days I would have agonized over whch one to get and got an all singing all dancing expensive one whereas now I am happy with a basic one.

    I must be becoming a grown up (I'm 47):rotfl:

I can't imagine being without a freezer

It's not a position I've ever been in since I got my first house (early '87). I became a 2-freezer household in Dec '91, changed my original to a f/f in '94 ( ) after the freezer blew, and gained a second f/f to become a 3-freezer household ( !!!! ) in May '02. But I've had the older f/f powered down for at least a year now - probably closer to 2.

I'm going to hang on to the powered down one until after Christmas (may yet have lots of people here, so will need the space to get the food in and then to store the left-overs if I overshop as badly as I have in the past when catering for a mob), but currently plan to Freecycle it at that point -- at which point it will have been "tested" recently enough for me to be confident enough in it to pass it on.

I'm also considering swapping the chest freezer (almost 17 years old) for a more energy efficient one (would have to ask my parents for it for Christmas), so I know I'll then have to force myself to also Freecycle the one it's replacing as well !!!

January could be a busy time for me offloading on Freecycle by the sounds of things ;)

    Hi cw18

You be ever so popular putting freezers on Freecycle. They are like gold dust on our local one and then usually for spares or repair

I had 4 requests for my tumble dryer within 5 mins of it appearing, so am expecting similar with the freezers ;)

When DD got her council house (before I knew about Freecycle) I put up a wanted ad at work, and she got most of the furniture through that for a pittance. As best I recall she got a washing machine and a large f/freezer (both about 18 months old and surplus to requirement due to a couple merging houses) for £80 each, a lovely 'old' wardrobe unit (wardrobe either end, dressing table area with drawers in the middle, and top boxes across the lot) for about £20, a really good quality computer desk for £10, a hi-fi for £20, a box of pots, pans & cooking utensils for about another £10......

I see putting these on Freecycle as my way of passing on her good fortune (as it meant we didn't have to help her out furnishing the place).

Hi all, congrats Munchki on passing your driving test I just passed mine 2 years ago (i'm 36) and its made a huge difference to my life. Ceridwen have you tried pure shea butter for the dry skin, it is quite solid in its pure form but if you heat it with a hairdryer it melts to an oil and you only need a tiny bit, a lot goes a long way. i had another slow cooker triumph today (don't know what i did before i got it!) put 3 large chicken legs cut in half in it with some mushrooms, shredded cabbage and some chicken stock, left it to cook then took out the chicken and poured the stock into a pan added some flour to thicken, some paprika and half a carton of cream, it was gorgeous served with some rice. it fed 6 of us and since i was only 75p each for the (huge) chicken legs i was really chuffed. got the chicken legs from a local butcher and they are really big about a pound weight each
