hi i have been looking at your recipes for bread can you tell me what size bowl you use for usig 1.5kgs of flour many thanks

    Hiya longhill,

I mix the flour and water together in a large 10 pint saucepan, cos none of my mixing bowls are big enough!:D

You could halve the mixture and do two mixes, if you've nothing that large?;)

    Hello all

    well done weezle..very efficient :T

Have just found out that Im going to be living even cheaper now.... Have just gone back on my medication (insert a raspberry thhhhrp) one of the many side effects is a heightened sense of taste.. So everything tastes wrong -unless its pretty bland -then it tastes right :p

Made hubby bolognaise for lunch-he had to be chief taster as it tasted sooooo strong and acidic to me.. so I had some spaghetti with a few frozen peas a dot of butter and a tidgy bit of fresh parmesan-it was lovely :D hubby looked at me like i was mad :rotfl:
Its weired.. you can put 1/8 tsp of dilute in a litre of water and it tastes like im drinking it neat from the bottle  (the doctors did this to test when i complained about the side affects the 1st time i had them-to see if i was imagining it:rolleyes: )..they gave me a glass of "water" and It made me heave :o ... it also makes my tongue feel like its being stripped .
    So I can see
    • plain pasta
    • chicken
    • porrige
    • weetabix
    • toast n potatoes being the order of the day :rotfl:
still It might help the weight loss and the purse strings :j hope everyone is having a lovely day :D

when DD6 was in nappies, our local council had small starter packs of real nappies (I think they were £5) I would imagine a lot more councils will have similar schemes too, as it's a good way to reduce landfill use.

There's a bewildering range of nappies, wraps, prefolds, liners out there - and its a few years since I've looked,so there's prob even more choice now. So it's well worth getting hold of sample packs, second hand etc just to see what style suits you and Fergus the best before you spend £100's.

I confess that I never went over to real nappies 100% - but even if you used only a couple of washable nappies a day it would still save you money.

regarding laundering them - if the nappy was pooey I would put it on a hot (90 degree) wash. But as I used liners, generally no poo went on the nappies so I would wash them at 40 degrees. Having said that, DD was older when I used washable nappies - newborn poo does go everywhere, not sure they've invented a nappy liner that will contain that!
    weaving through the chaos...

    Hi Shaz...

Please god don't let em give me anything that makes me eat more than I allready do  :rotfl:
No Im on Acetazolomide... I get a whole host of side effects along with the taste thing... the other most irittating one is pins n needles and a constant buzzing feeling all over -a bit like when you stand close to the TV and get that static tickle ..but its either try and get used to these or face having a shunt in my brain  hmmm thinks me will cope with the side effects :rotfl: ... I have had them several times before but always end up coming off them and just relying on lots of painkillers and as much sleep as I can get ;)

I wonder if it's the age old trouble with being skint = having no savings, therefore £250 start up costs seems apalling and impossible to find, whereas a tenner for a pack of nappies is more palatable, despite the real cost being higher?

I think it's a bit like those 'split into 3 easy, affordable monthly payments of £20' QVC type claims, that stops folk from realising they're paying £60 for sommat they could get for £50:D

Fortunately, thanks to the grocery challenge, we're going to have some cash behind us to afford the initial outlay, so that's really good!

Yep, cleaning cloths or baby number 2, good plan ceridwen! I just inherited a cleaning cloth from my Gran that my Mum says was one of my brother's nappies. He's 32.....;)

Well...it aint either/or - I understand that theres still loadsa "cleaning" wear in nappies even after 2 children have "put them to good use";) :D

For the rest - I can just see you and me on a U.N. "peacekeeping mission" - me saying "You're talking through your hat" to some idiot thats about to start up more conflict and you saying "but its a very nice hat....really suits you....you look just like (insert film star of choice) in it".....I guess you're just more diplomatic than me our weezl!:D

Me - I use one 11" (28 cms) across. Its one of those steel lightweight jobbies and I make it up one large loaf at a time - make up the first large loaf and plonk in one large breadtin, then make up another one and plonk that in the other large breadtin. Rise. Bake.

I noticed my large steel wok is much the same size and shape - so that could be used as well.
