Good afternoon everyone! Oh how I have missed you all. It has been several months since I last posted and to say the very least it has been a funny year so far. For the first time in a very long time, I finally want to and enjoy smiling again, seriously have my frugal hat on, both by neccesity and choice. Life however is good, well slowly getting better.
I just wanted to say good morning(well it was morning when I started reading today) to suppose should say Good afternoon instead lol. It is great to see the wonderful comforting faces and words and again and all the new ones I have yet to meet.
Thank you everyone, and a special thank you to a couple, you know who you are, who were really there in my darkest of days at the beginning.
Hugs all around!!

hello munchki good to hear that thing are finally on the up...been a funny old year here too and am, also through necessity, being frugal! Still not up to weezl standards but getting there!! shop today in Mr T's and it came to 8 so not bad cons that included eggs etc...came back to whizz up the lentil pate a la ISOM...1 can lentils, drained and rinsed, some manky old sundried toms and peppers, smidge of grlix paste, olive oil, black pepper and curry powder and whizz...enough for 2 lots - 1 for freezer and 1 for the week...all storecup ingredients.
Also have lots of rice flour so recipes appreciated from me too...on to next job and then a snooze...the last two weeks catching up on me and feeling fluey again...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
ISOM - heres a recipe that is for Millet Pilaff. I'd be inclined to add a bit of chicken if you didn't have nuts to add.

I know this is not at all what you were thinking of for your rice flour while trying to make meals but this caught my eye - a recipe for rice flour brownies. Doesn't look too expensive to make if you used Value chocolate and looks yummy. Must have your treats.

Hi hob.
Not sure too many of us can reach the heights of weezls frugralism but I think that she has had to extend the budget slightly with all the food price rises.
At last sight I think her signature was to aim for £1 a day for each of her family - so £90 per month.
Thats good going as I believe that included all toiletries/cleaning/health products.
Personally I'm still working at getting my family of 4 down to £120 per month all in. Have managed a couple of odd months but not sustainable over a continuous period so I've work to do there!
Its worth a little scan through the first page recipes for some help with cheap, nutritious dishes. Can highly recommend the liver pate recipe (if its still there).AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

no pob its just food, toiletries etc but most of us dont manage as well as weezl and the rest of us just try our best to keep it low and share recipes/chat along the way....noone will whip you or anything!! People post tried and tested recipes and we share them and ways of making food go longer etc...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! I've found the breakdown of meal prices really useful and it's becoming a habit to get the calculator out when deciding whether to cook a recipe. I've become addicted to it.
One of the reasons I've really liked this thread, hob, is because there is a lot of emphasis on the healthy aspect of being frugal. I loved the info weezl dug up for us on the various vits and minerals that we needed and how to find the cheap way of getting them (sometimes thinking outside of the box).
Well, I cooked my Toad in the hole and moussaka today. BUT... DH dished and gave the boys the WHOLE moussaka as they moaned about the toad. Dinner tomorrow is now egg and chips.

Oooohh... that sounds like quite a nice variation on the lentil pate.
I too have some sun dried tomatoes to use up... so I think I may try this during the weekcheerfulness4 wrote: »Dinner tomorrow is now egg and chips.
