I love green tea, but if you are new to it then it's best to think of it as some other hot drink as it has no milk and is nothing like Indian or China tea!
If you are worried that it might be bitter, or have found that it is, pour boiling water onto the leaves/bag in the pot to the depth of 1", swill round and discard the water (not the tea) and fill the pot with just off the boil water.
Steep for 2-5 minutes, pour a cup and top up the pot with hot water.
Green and white teas are supposed to be very good for you. They are from the same plant as usual but only the youngest leaves from the tips of the stems are used, and they are dried quickly rather than being fermented (fermentation is what makes tea black, I think)
It's a refreshing drink, and is supposed to be even better than a glass of water at preventing a hangover after a night on the pop!0 -
I find the secret with green tea is not to steep it too long. It doesn't improve with time as other teas do, it's at its peak after a couple of minutes.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0

Thanks for the ideas, I think I will make an bacon and lentil soup as well as the 'piggery pie', based on ISOM's suggestions of soup and lentils - need the potatoes to top the pie. And I will definitely add the mustard to the pie. Will let you know how dinner goes in Chicken Mansions tonight...

I might just have to actually drink the green tea then. Tomorrow, I'll do it tomorrow.

You've just reminded me I forgot to ask SIL about her wine! Duh.
Spent all afternoon comparing notes on the joys of raising our respective teenage sons and went clean out of my mind.
Mislaid one box of my precious green tea. DH was sitting on it! How the heck can you not know you're sitting on a box of 40 Tetleys Green tea bags?! Oh well, don't suppose it matters that the box is all squashed. Probably more of a worry is that the BBDate is early 2008.:rotfl:

So, tonight I am thinking of inventing 'piggery pie' - like cottage or shepherd's pie, but with the pack of minced pork I took out this morning, one leftover bit of black pudding and some bacon mis-shapes. I also have some leftover sliced and par-boiled new potatoes which I think I will use to top it. I've also got a ham stock cube, a couple of sticks of celery and an onion to put in, and also thought a dab of mustard might not go amiss. Do you think it will work??? Any other thoughts?

i suspect it will be lovely! only problem is you'll never be able to make it quite the same again
i did a similar thing last night as i'm moving tomorrow, well actually in a few hours (couldn't sleep) i needed to use up all the stuff in the freezer so i chucked in every odd bit of meat i had left into my slow cooker (lamb heart, small slice of lamb shin, some beef and bacon!) along with the remaining peas, frozen peppers and 2 carrots from the fridge. added some spices cooked all day as i've cleaned and packed and then added in some bisto to thicken (and i got to recycle the package so one last thing to pack!) and mmmmmmm some of the best soup i've ever made, a proper stew!
anyway, i'd better get back to work, might as well be cleaning if i can't sleep...0 -

i agree with you on both counts!
i love chai with lots of milk and honey but i can't afford to buy honey all the time so after awhile using sugar instead i discovered something really neat
i started making up teapots full of chai vs individual cups, mostly to get the most out of each teabag (and and excuse to have 2 cups if i'm honest!) and since i'd always put my honey in my cup before the hot water when making chai before i added my sugar into the pot instead then steeped as normal
what i discovered is that i can get away with using LESS sugar doing this and the flavour is greatly improved vs just adding the sugar right before drinking. the thing is i'd always thought that the sugar was disolving properly in the cup the old way, i guess i was wrong!
of course the best way to have chai is to actually use milk totally in place of water but this is time consuming and more costly, however when i do it this way i go all out and add honey and let it all steep together mmmmmmmm0 -
