    Hi guys

I think costco gives trade membership to people who work in the NHS but i would ring ahead and check

You can also download the application form from the web page

Sheffield is my nearest but that is about an hour away may have to combine with a trip to Meadowhell later in the year

Having a quiet day waiting for the sun to come out?

I have a question for all you frugalistas. When I was in Asda yesterday picking up some smart price conditioner to try I happened to notice that smart price toothbrushes are only 10p for two and that the smart price toothpaste is uber cheap too. Can anyone recommend these, I mean I always thought toothpaste was something worth buying a better quality but is that wrong?

I can't imagine that there's sufficient justifiable difference between a 5p toothbrush and a £3 toothbrush so long as your brushing technique is good...

Hi Cazz, my dentist said the main thing to do is to look at the fluoride amount. I know that Colgate total has the highest of the branded toothpaste and the tesco own brand is a quarter of the price and has the same amount of fluoride. I think it is 1500ppm but you can read and compare ingredients in the same way as food :) With toothbrushes I am not sure it makes a massive difference to be honest, I think maybe look at how long a cheap one would last in comparison rather than at how it looks, I have a cheapy one and it is doing me fine :D

Cazz We've been using the Smartprice toothpaste in the last couple of weeks. I have found no problems with it just that it doesn't have a very minty taste or smell. It would be great for children I think that don't like 'spicy' toothpaste as my youngest DS calls it :D

As for toothbrushes I buy the packs of 5 from Poundland and they've been great. I'll have a look at the Smartprice ones now, although I don't generally shop in Asda, the next time I pop in.

Someone reviewed the SP toothbrush on Ciao.co.uk and said it was every bit as good as the more expensive brands they'd used so I'm going to give them a go. We used to have one of the Oral B sonic rechargeable ones which we got as a crimbo pressie but the heads are £5 each and although they do give your teeth a really nice clean feel I can't justify the cost difference to myself versus a 5p one.

In true Weezl style, the Oral B heads are 100 times more expensive so if one of those lasts me 3 months, the equivalent cost worth of SP toothbrushes would last me 25 years :D

We get the poundland ones too i think they change .............wisdom ones at the mo and the kiddies ones you get packs of 10 for£1 and they have suction feet to stand them up with

We use own brand toothpaste usualy but colgate was 2 for a £1 at £land after christmas and we stocked up

only prob is hubby likes a firm bristled brush and all the cheapies are soft/medium

Weezl what moisturiser do you use .....if any i use home bargains cussons baby cream about 70p i think for a large tub (500ml)

In true Weezl style I have analysed our toothpaste stash - well 3 tubes ;) - whilst I was upstairs.

The Asda Smart Price is 1000 parts per million of flouride

The Asda Essential Care is 1350 ppm flouride

    Aquafresh is 1100 ppm flouride

Guess it's Essential Care for us as we're not too keen on the taste of the Smart Price one. Hope this helps someone :o

Oh god I'm turning into a proper nerd! Just had a tootle up to Asda (it's 2 minutes away from the site office I'm working at currently) to get a pack of those toothbrushes to try out and ended up pricing up a basic toiletries kit from the SP range.

    £1.38 would get you:
    500ml shampoo (12p)
    500ml conditioner (25p)
    2 toothbrushes (10p)
    150ml toothpaste (17p)
    250ml shower gel (8p)
    10 disposable razors (25p)
    200ml can deodorant (41p)

I paid more than £1.38 for my last bottle of shower gel. Shocking really. I saw a pot of salt scrub there for about £8 too, nearly fainted cos it's a fraction of that cost to make your own but there's obviously a market for hideously overpriced toiletries.

ISOM, I think either she is on a splurge or she can't get her calculator to work and so she is still frantically scribbling sums to work out the equivalent prices once VAT is added :)

I do love to stockpile but knowing I am moving at the end of June means I want to run my cupboards down as much as possible to save myself work. It is so hard walking past a bargain though!
