  • CW18 - just wanted to send !!!!{HUGS}} to you and your family, am sorry to hear your news and to hear how stressful life is at the mo. I don't chat much on mse (too shy!) but but do want to echo other's words of coming and chatting if you need to.

Weezl- does the choc in the fudge recipe need to be "good" chocolate or can you get away with cheaper stuff?

Freecycle - we used cloth nappies with our ds's but never tried no nappies - is this "elimination comunication" (?or something?!) wish I had been able to find out more about this sort of thing when the ds's were smaller.. ds2 suffered with terrible nappy rash/exema whatever nappies we used. "Airtime" was very much used in our house!! I have to agree with co-sleeping - it did work for us esp as I was bf but each to their own and all that ;)
  • :T I agree with your comment about each to his own. We all do things our own way...I'm probably on the other end of the scale where I do most things people cringe at :o but that's just me......yes it is elimination communication. When you think about it, it's really not that radical to take your baby to the toilet...it's just an extension of listening to his needs, same with breastfeeding...that's my thoughts....but I'm sure everyone has their own thoughts on how to do things. Life would be boring if we were all the same :D
  • Cheryl, I'm really sorry to hear about your OH, I know that you have been really inspiring to me in the way you have reframed your life to ensure that you look after your family when it is financially difficult, and I am sure lots of other people have learnt from you too. I hope there are people physically near to offer you comfort, please feel you can vent/moan/offload to us too.

freecycle, I don't have children so it isn't something that is really relevant to me right now but it does sound fascinating. I would have thought that you would save a fortune, not to mention a large amount of landfill/energy for washing nappies by avoiding them altogether.

Weezl, how are the food cravings now? Are you back to being able to eat everything you liked before? Any soil cravings? :)
God is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day
  • ISOM - You've caught me out...it was indeed the blackberry bushes that did it!!!! All that frolicking whilst forraging!!!!!! May change his nickname from little mush to little blackberry!!!!! :-)

CW18 - I'm sending even bigger hugs to you now. I hope you are getting them! I hope having you're son back home is a comfort and I do hope that your family are supporting you as you are them. Big big hugs x x x
    :p I'm a frugal wannabe :p

    Hi,

Just popped in to amuse you with a couple of my frugal failures :o

    number one:

have spent the last 4 months nurturing thinning weeding and tending my own version of Mrs M's potio apotment. Bought plastic tubs, soil and builder's sand to try and do it 'right'!

Well AM has just harvested the lot:
    harvest.jpg

none of the carrots are longer than an inch and a half and none of the beets are bigger than a ping pong ball!! :rotfl:I reckon this will make a max of 2 meals :o:o:o:o

ho hum, will do better next year!

    Failure number two:

read Martin's article on making the most of supermarket savings schemes. Thought Ah ha, I get it, for every £144 put on an asda gift card they will make it up to £150- fab, and if I pay for it on my 1% cashback credit card too, then that's like getting 5% off all my groceries. Got a leaflet instore... Checked when the cards had to be used by... good, you get 2 years!!!:T:T:T

Decided to splash out on enough gift cards for my whole next year's shopping, buying 3x £144 gift cards. (much to the peturbation of the checkout girl;))

Returned home, muchly smug and happy.

Later poured over the small print, and there discovered the dreaded line: £6 bonus on every £144, if spent before 31/12/2008 :eek::eek:

So my money's safe, and I have got 2 years to spend it, but no bonus for me.

    Don't I feel like a prize wally:o:D?

Sian - not fully back on all foods, but much less fussy than I was! Fergus' main food stipulation seems to be 'lots please' :D:D:D

freecycle- I'm gobbling up the co-sleeping book. Really revolutionary thinking, and very well researched and written....I may be coming round to the idea!;)

congratulations BASHFUL :j:j:j If you really did it while foraging then I vote you change your user name to 'bold as brass'!!! ;););)

    Love to you all,

    Weezl x

Just popping by for a quick catch up :)

Weezl - don't think of them as failures..... they're learning curves. And your first "failure" is one heck of a lot more successful than my attempt was 5 years ago :o

Many thanks for all the hugs over the past few days from everyone. Elder DS got home late yesterday evening -- and by this afternoon all signs of "brotherly love" between him and younger son were back in plain view  But as my SIL said, at least it means some things haven't changed

I had a totally unexpected delivery this afternoon -- a stunning floral display (from M&S no less) from a group of friends on a craftting forum. What amazed me was that they matched my downstairs decor (terracotta). When I posted (jokingly) that I wanted to know how the organiser knew my colour scheme, the reply was "someone has a good memory for a conversation we had on favourite colours" -- and that must have been months and months ago !!!!!

  • Just caught up Cheryl and wanted to add my sympathies along with everyone else. x
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:
