hello!
weezl - your carrots were better than mine!!!
i'm not sure about the 'no nappy' idea ... in my opinion, this is fine, if you don't have anything else to do except gaze at your baby! we did a bit of co-sleeping ... babe started out the evening in crib (next to bed) but from once we went to bed, and babe needed a feed, they ended up in with us! they slowly eased out of sleeping with us as and when they gave up night time feeds.
can't wait to try fudge!!!

If you get some eggs, milk, mince beef, value chicken thighs and cheese you can have:
Pasta with bolognaise sauce (1/2 jar pasta tomato sauce, frugal mince!, and pasta)
HM meatballs (mince, 1/2 jar pasta sauce) with pasta
Cheese omelette and chips
Chicken thighs (1/2 the pkt) in sauce with savoury rice
Roasted Chicken thighs with cauliflower cheese (HM sauce, cheese, milk, bit of flour to thicken, knob of marg/butter)
Egg and chips
I've had weeks like this recently- good luck with it!!!0 -
well I'm back and thankyou for the tips. Managed to get two big lots of chicken thighs (one to put with sauce and one to roast and soup), two gammon steaks (bargain, just one pound at lidl), some milk, some frozen veg (to go with roast and to bulk out savoury rice), some fishfingers. My mum gave me some of her surplus home grown potatoes and I found some flour and butter tucked away so will be able to make a white sauce.
thanks again everyone, I'll be using the tips and links again definitely.................payday is next week but I need to stretch it as far as possible0 -
I have not managed to get even close to the efforts of people on here. As I only moved to this house in October its a bit too late for me with producing my own good. But today the twins had realised that they had £15 worth of healthy start vouchers, and so I went to tesco and bought up loads and loads of vegetables, went a bit over the £15. But now I am going to have to have a go and freezing it all so that I dont waste it. I have blanched two packets of Broccoli while I was making the tea.
I have bought, Curly kale, never had that before, and havent a clue what I should do with it?When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Turkey is often cheaper than chicken and just as versatile. Next time you're at the shops compare the £/kilo of both and see if you can save a little more.0

A tip for a pasta meal, cook pasta and frozen veggies, plus fingers, all mixed together with a good dollop of ketchup is lovely and a really easy meal to make.

Tesco had some pretty cheap whole chickens in their "discount brands" range this evening, as did Aldi the other day. I also noticed in the local market the other day that one of the butchers was selling huge local chickens (not sure what they weighed but they looked like small turkeys) for £7. If you have a market near you, check it out!0

wow, I do like the sound of the fingers and pasta meal, I'm going to have to give that a go......and it'll be quick as well which is ideal with a 7 month old baby who demands all my attention after work in the evenings!
I'll also check out whole chicken and turkey prices next time I go to the shops. Am now just trying to think of ways of drawing up a realistic budget on payday and sticking to it............I guess the grocery challenge board will help with that?
Is anybody out there from Plymouth/Devon way who knows if there's a meat wholesaler near us...I saw them mentioned on another thread and wondered if bulk buying meat may be the way to go
Anyhow, enough drivel, I'm off to put my thighs in the slow cooker0
