I use soda crystals too it is very good for stains just taken my washing out and wish I had used some then as my new top has still got marks on and so as Izzy dress so the woolite is not that great on its own!:cool:0

On Mysupermarket it looks like the Tesco Value powder is the same price / kg as Soda Crystals so it won't work out any cheaper using them, however it might be worth giving them a go for getting stains/smells out of Fergie's reusable nappies better than the powder. We use them a lot on out mountain biking and walking clothes which gets really stinky with sweat and often caked in mud.0

There was a thread that said if you mix, in equal parts, soda crystals, a value powder and an expensive branded powder, it made your powder go much further, with the smell of the branded powder.
Can I ask how much per wash, the Tesco value powder works out at please ???
I bought, quite a while ago, a tub of the Costco own brand (Kirkland brand) soap powder... which at the time, worked out at 2.5p per wash :T
However, I recently went back to get a tub for my dad, and the price had gone up
.
I think his tub worked out about 4p per wash:eek:0 -

Aye, that is a good price :T
The Costco one is good... because you only use half a scoop... not sure what the weight is for that
It just seems to last forever
**runs into kitchen to weigh half a scoop of powder**0 -
The wee scoop that you get with the Costco powder, works out to be 40grams for half a scoop...
It is suuuuuuper concentrated, so you may be able to use less if you wanted to.
I have just worked out what should be used... using the figures on the tub... .. 31.75grams.
So I am over soaping my wash
Not very cost effective, I know...
But at least I will be adding less from now on

I use the value one too
I have in the past made my own gloop too it does work but it makes loads so you need good storage for it and grating the soap takes ages
I really ought to make some with the trimmings etc from the soap i have made (plus some of the less successful soap) i willl dig out the recipe for anyone interested

I've just weighed what I always put in the machine in powder & its 75g
I've marked the cup that I have in the box to 50g and will experiment going lower using soda crystals. I bought them a while ago for doing a delimescale cleaning wash of the washer & dishwasher. Not surprising that I've been going through washing powder so quickly! Thank you to whoever brought this up in the first place :T 0 -

I reckon its gotta be dirt cheap - and 'tis not that there biological powder creating havoc in our waterways (as I recall killing various very important little living things...? - hence my gritted teeth at the price whilst buying Ecover non-bio)....so gotta be a good idea...0 -
I can't find my recipe will have to trawl later but it is grated soap melted in water with soda crystals and borax added will try to find the quantities
