hurro pepys! Good to have some new people on board as always but dont feel you can only post if youre mega frugal!! I always fail miserably!! Lots of Welsh contingents ...I'm in Cardiff and thankfully close to our weezl so get lots of ferg cuddles!! One of the bestest things that mse has given me is weezl, am and ferg...Did quite an unfrugal shop in (date I say it) the shop that begins with S...feeling carp though and will be at home most of the week so will do better next week...
Must try and make the biccies at some stage but lackig energy at the mo...also taken a liking to eggs (scotch eggs x 2 today!) I blame weezl cos shes always eating em! Have decided to try and shift some 1bs so frugal cheap recipes appreciated!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
You can use chickpea/besan/gram flour (all names for basically same thing), which is more traditionally used for bhaji - I do know someone that has substituted plain flour and said they were good, but I'm not sure I would try that personally.
I just use plain flour every time I make them and they turn out great.

Morning everyone!
I'm an adopted Welsh girl, 2 of my closest friends are from Wales, one from Canton and the other from Connahs Quay. Last time I went to see my friend in CQ she took me to Llanfair.... I could actually say it by the time I left!
I'm due to go shopping, I've price checked it on my supermarket and the cheapest shop this week is Asda, but I hate going there because it's always busy... Always! I've never been there and not had to queue up, and I've tried going at different times.
I'm going to take the list to Lidl and see if I can get my shopping from there instead.
I know the feeling Cazz, I hear about these great offers, and then I can't get any of them because they are all out of London!
I don't know where I could even think about foraging. I did that in Connahs Quay with blackberries, they were gorgeous! I should also confess that I went to Asda on the Sunday before I was leaving, bought loads of whoopsies and took them back to London.:rotfl:
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
Morning everyone!
Weezl can I come to your house & help with the eating of the ice cream & drinking of cordial please :rotfl: it all sounds very yummy.
What lovely weather we're having although I do find it easier to make frugal meals when it's cold, it's the slow cooker etc that helps I betFor tonights tea I am doing fritatta with a carrot & chickpea salad. I plan on grating the carrots, adding the already cooked & cooled chickpeas, a finely chopped red onion, some garlic, some finely chopped rosemary & a glug of olive oil with salt & pepper. I've never made it before but I've sort of mashed a couple of recipes that I've seen (but were too expensive) around. I don't think that the kids will eat it but DH & I will love it :T Any ideas & improvements welcome.

Great idea thanks Shaz :j I'm about to start it soon so that's come in nice time. I've just been hosing down DS3 who was hot when he came in from school. I was watering some newly planted petunias so it was as easy to water him too0

MrsB I was having a browse on the Lidl website and saw that they have a special offer on peppers and onions too. Do you precook the pepper and onions or do you just cut them up and freeze them?
xx
I just chop 'em and bag 'em. Some folks blanch them first I, but I never do, life's too short:D.
It's only a game
~*~*~ We're only here to dream ~*~*~0 -
I like your way of thinking MrsB, I'll do the same then.
I went to Lidl today, the peppers and the radishes were not on special offer, I've just checked the site and there aren't there anymore. Oh well, I was looking forward to trying out radishes, I may still pick some up as I've managed to find someone to take me to my local market. :jI may have to go back to Lidl though, Avocadoes for 29p!
I bought some mangoes for breakfast tomorrow and I tested a bit while cutting it up and it was delicious! One was rotten through and I took it back and they replaced it with no hassle.
My bill came up £7.22, and I checked on my supermarket and the same shop in Asda would have been £10.45 :money:Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0 -
updates in greenpopped back with another thought.
Geeky research shows cloth nappies as winning hands down...
Disposable nappies: 14p each for branded, as low as 11p each for value brands/stores own
Average number of nappies used from birth to toilet training = 5353
cost approx £749.42 (not including wipes, sudocrem etc...) and a large poo smelling landfill mountain all caused by me
Cloth nappies, £200 set up costs, liners and plastic pants £50
actual cost to weezl, none so far as all the nappies are lend/give/freecycle acqisitions!:money:
onto the tricky bit, the cost of washing them....
my friend Helen reckons it's best to launder them every 2-3 days. My washer costs 5.5p to run at 40 degrees (I have no 30 degree setting). This would cost me £201 in electricity.
actual cost to weezls, laundry once every 2-3 days! Pah! I'm doing 2 loads of laundry a day!!!! estimated total laundry cost therefore £400- but I guess we'd have increased our laundry use anyway...
Washing powder: 50grams every 2.5 days for 2 and a half years is £15.86 in washing powder.
total £466.86. And a cleaner greener conscience!
I realise I will have to be flexible about this:o. Friends tell stories of having their children refused at nursery unless they wear 'proper nappies', and day trips or 2 day car journeys on a hot august with a carrier bag of used terries festering in the back of the boot meant that one couple I know have a 'disposables on holiday' policy now... :rotfl:
wish me luck and sory the geekiness is a bit baby-centred today!
