hi, I don't have a routine, but I always find it best to do as much as I can in the mornings, as I just seem to have more energy then. After lunch I always tend to slow down a bit, so I find this the best time to do things like pairing socks from the laundry basket whilst having a nice cup of coffee!!
Washing is one thing that is definitely best done early on, so that it has time to dry! If you find you're a bit disorganised, why not try making a list of stuff to do?
I always try to get the worst jobs over with early on, then you don't have to think about them all day.0 -
Still to do:
[strike]Get something out for dinner
Work
Take DS4 shoes in to get mended[/strike] He told me they weren't worth fixing
[strike]Get DS4 $20 out (I'm controlling his cash flow card for a while . . .)
Organise for ALL OF US to do a bit of house cleaning tonight[/strike]I washed dishes and cleaned off bench; OH dried dishes; DS3 wiped some muddy doggy mess off doors, door frames and some walls; DS4 vacuumed through living areas and entry. If there is to be any peace, it will come through being, not having - Henry MillerM.A.C.A.W Member . . I've had spells of full-time housewife (are we allowed to say that?) and have never had much routine. Washing in morning though, so that it can be out on line all day. Often put on in the evening so it's ready to go out first thing.
Essentials in the morning so I can doss in the afternoon if need be. Baking used to be afternoons with small children, often in the mornings now to get bread done for lunch.
If I'm 'doing' a room thoroughly, that tends to be an afternoon job. Shopping is evenings or mornings now but used to be a nine o'clock thing when I'd dropped kids off at school.
Don't make it all day every day though - there is more to life than housework!0 -
HowGreatThouArt wrote: »Hi! 1st post. wondering if you OSers could help. I am a traditional housewife, and making a wonderful safe and comforting home for my family is really important to me. The thing that I have a problem with is structuring my day in order that all jobs get done. Does anybody have a plan to make things go smoothly?
In the 1930s or 1950s did a housewife learn a particular set routine from her mother??? I love learrning about the past and wondered if anybody had any wisdom to share, i.e. do i do my baking in the morning? or is it better to do the washing them? etc.
sorry if this sounds a bit rambling, but i am in my mid 20s and I grew up in care so i have had no useful skills passed down to me!
please help
We Old Stylers can follow the MSE Flylady routines  I'll add this to the current Flylady thread - take a look at the first page where suggested daily jobs are added. You'll definitely get loads of help with routines there

ahhhh flylady! i had no idea what that was...d'uh!
Thanks for the responses. I don't have any children as yet just me ,DH and the dog, so i feel really guilty getting myself into a state over what I have to do!!
I'm not naturally a housework fiend, but i find that if i walk into a messy, cluttered room i feel...bleugh, lol! which makes me feel lazy (no idea why)
Today i am going to tidy the study, and file all the bills and paperwork away from the mountains on the desk, and clean the bathroom, and hoover the stairs and the bedrooms. Then i'm going to have a cup of tea and watch 'A touch of Frost' hehe!Goals: Have a Homemade Christmas 2008, lose a 1 and a half stone, be thankful for everything I have.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.0
