My upstairs neighbour is 7 weeks pregnant, and has had a spell in hospital for severe morning sickness. She's home now, and I want to get her something for when I visit her - has anyone got any ideas about what she may appreciate? I know it's quite early, as she hasn't reached 12 weeks yet, so I don't think I should get a congratulations card etc in case it's bad luck.
GINGER TEA...it worked wonders for my morning sickness. Put together a bit of a "ladies pig night" hamper together for it to go in:)

Ok polkadot - thanks for the idea - I think I'll pop into town, and see if I can find some - also thought that some of that Palmer's cocoa butter cream may be a good idea - what do you think? I could make some ginger biscuits as I have some ground ginger in.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Poor girl, morning sickness is foul! I had all day and night sickness with my three, particularly DD2... who is most like me!! I've heard it said that the sicker you are the more positive it is... like, you've got tons of hormones coursing through, so it's s'posed to be an indicator of a good strong pregnancy.... how true that is... I don't know?

However, having had 2 miscarriages, (and I'm only speaking for myself here!) I was really upset when people said that they hadn't congratulated me... just in case. I felt that I'd rather have the congratulations, and the sympathy when it didn't work out right in the end. IYSWIM??

I'm sure others will feel differently to me, my friend didn't even tell me she was pregnant until she was 20 wks 'just in case' But I felt that if something had gone wrong, would she want and need my support??

Honestly SM I don't know, I can only speak from my point of view. If it were me, I'd want cards/cake/congratulations/and sympathy for feeling carp ;) But I know others may feel differently. ;)

Hope that didn't fel as though I've jumped down your throat, I's hate to offend you. ;)

No offence taken Sarah - the reason I was unsure of the congratulations card was because her great aunt (opposite neighbour - the one I take to the supermarket etc) told me about it in confidence as she was only meant to tell family, and I know that she has had miscarriages in the past, and I was a bit worried I may jinx it. I texted her husband to see how she was today, and he already knew that I'd been told, so now I feel bad for not going up sooner.

I'm glad that you said that it's likely it will be a strong pregnancy though. That makes me feel better. I was trying not to get too excited in case things didn't work out as they've been trying for a baby for 3 years now, and she's the same age as me (25).

Very good idea-I used to have one of those before I even got out of bed.
I was the same as SS it never stopped. (and I was told the same about it) I know it sounds odd but here's how it was explained to me, I was hospitalised four times as I was so sick he went into distress and started contractions. One of the Xhosa nurses told me that when any of the tribe suffered like this they made sacrifices to ask the ancestors to "change the bodies mind".
You know how you get nauseous when you have food poisoning? Its a foreign substance and your body recognises that it needs to get rid of it.
It does the same with a pregnancy as it doesn't recognise all the new hormones, hence the note that SS made regarding hormones being very strong indicating a strong pregnancy.
  • OMG polkadot She is really special!!!! I had one like that, thankfully now GONE They could be the same person!!!! She (my toxic ex-friend) could not, under any circumstances see what she was doing that could be offensive. She barged around, shouting down anyone that challenged her, and was extremely 'good' at arguing, so it didn't matter what I, or anyone else said for that matter. Everyone was always wrong, and, she ALWAYS felt like a wronged victim!!!! Remarkable!!!

I'd tell your ex-toxic friend that she can come and collect the bag whenever she likes, that no, you're not able to be polite to such a rude cow, and if you're out you'll leave in a bag on the step!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

What a cheeky mare!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Right I'll be off to the shops now then. My recipe for ginger biscuits sounds like a sort of ginger shortbread - do you think it'll be too buttery, or is this ok? I know you're meant to eat dry crackers, I wondered whether some dry gingernuts would be better?
