Parking ticket in Asda car park - Is this legal, can they take me to court?

"Why do you never park in disabled bays?" There are legal implications here but more importantly, I believe that disabled people should be given special parking concessions as , in the main, their state of health has been inflicted upon them. This is detrimental to their quality of life and I am happy to support any steps which makes their lot more tolerable. However, people who park in disabled bays with a badge but no disabled passenger, they get my goat.
".....highly likely I will have to rest my car door on the next vehicle" I'm sorry but this is inexcusable. You do not have to rest your door on my car, you could find a parking space that allows you to open the door fully without damaging someone else's property.
"...... by accident as kids tend not to be to subtle when opening doors or getting in/out of cars" Well, it's the parents responsibility to make sure they are subtle. If I had done that as a child, my father would have made me sit and wait for the vehicles owner to return so that I could apologise and he could give his details in order to cover the costs of any repairs. I know this to be true because it happened. Parents are responsible for their childrens actions, if the child isn't to blame then the parent is.
Yes I speed, anyone who says thy don't is either a liar or too nervous a driver to even be allowed on the roads. No I would never commit a hit and run or drive if I've consumed even one ounce of alcohol. I'm not sure where you're heading with those comments but bottom line is this...... Wanting to look after my property and refusing to be treated like a second class citizen does not make me a bad or immoral person.
The answer to all these issues raised in this thread is actually remarkably simple. Supermarket bays are too small for todays modern vehicles and "lifestyles". Ridiculous legislation makes them put in far too many bays, the majority of which will only ever be used on a Sunday when they host the local car boot sale. Change the legislation, reduce the number but increase the size of the bays and everyone would be happy.0 -
At the end of the day ANYONE who parks in a bay they shouldn't should be highly ASHAMED of themselves! I am disgusted with the opinions of some people on this thread.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

Well it also appears that some people have to hide behind a newly registered user id to express their real views on this thread0

Totally agree on this point. I believe that there are no legal implications for parking in a disabled bay (other than private prosecutions from the land owner).

Indeed there are spaces available, they are called Parent & Child and that's why they are there. Big cars have big doors. I have a family car and a sports car. As you'll know sports cars have long doors. To open them to get a kid out of the back means a wide space is required - or am I not allowed to have a flash car and kids?.

Reality check. If you did that today, the returning person would likely punch your lights and threaten to visit you at home late at night. I agree that parents are responsible for their actions and I made my statement just to show that there are reasons why things are the way they are (ie, wide spaces for disabled and parents). But I'll guarantee right here that almost all door chinks are done by ignorant scumbags in beat up vauxhalls, not kids.

No it doesn't, but by demanding to be treated as first class at the expense of others (second class citizens)?. Is that right?. And please note I was not accusing you of any of these things. I also speed and take great pleasure from it!!.
I see where you're coming from and have to agree that there are many, many inequalities in this country of ours. I disturbed a burglar in my house a few years back and chased him down the drive...into his buddies who beat me up and then I was arrested for assault and the others let off. CPS dropped charges thankfully but I was "disabled" for about six weeks so have an understanding of why the spaces are there and I was just trying to get the readers of this thread to take a step back from any prejudices or pre-conceived ideals.
I guess the direction I was heading is that we all have a rating system of what is/isn't acceptable. You like parking in parent spaces. I hate it. You and I both hate people parking in disabled bays and so on. Likewise, there are diabaled folk who think it is there god given right to have access to special spaces - which I also have a problem with.

Again, have to agree with you. Planning rules prevent out-of-town stores from encroaching upon greenbelt or otherwise. Unlilely to ever change with this car hating government and the world 'push' to be greener means even less likely in the future.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -

No actually, I am newly registered and it just seems that my first post has caused quite a stir. I'm not hiding anything0 -
I had my car broken into, and the next day when I was at work I had the Autoglass bloke out, and the only place nearby to get the window replaced was 1 of 6 empty disabled bays (in order to replace the glass the door has to be opened all the way, and only the disabled bays provided ample space). So anyway, 2 minutes into the job, along comes a warden giving it all the big spuds and he made the Autoglass bloke pack up his tools and made me move my car. Some of them are absolute sods.0

It's called taking responsibility for your own life......not expecting the rest of the world to make life easy for you.
So you won't be collecting your state pension then?~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I'm wise enough to realise that by the time I retire, there won't be a state pension.
Apologies for the earlier typo in your user name.....it was a genuine error0 -
annoyed1971 wrote:Liz, why shouldn't people park in parent and child spaces? I make a point of parking here (and no I don't have any kids) to avoid my car getting damaged by ignorant people who whack their doors open. There is no legal or moral grounds for these spaces unlike Disabled parking.
Disabled parking is provided to assist people who NEED to be closer to shops and NEED extra space for wheelchairs etc. It's not these people's fault that they are disabled (in the main) and they deserve some additional help.
Why should parents have shorter distance to walk or wider spaces just because they CHOSE to have a family?
I have never been embarased about parking in these spaces though I have been challenged many times by parents. My response is simple......."You chose to have a family, I chose to have a nice shiny 2 door sports coupe......don't have a go at me just because I made the better choice!".
End of rant........
Rubbish. What an awful point of view to have. I have a child and try to park in the P and C bays wherever possible - it makes it much easier to get the little one out of the car as you can have the door wide open.
And it doesn't matter what car you have - anybody with a new car feels the same way, no matter how much it cost - I have an x reg Astra I bought second hand and I don't want to get it bashed either!
Don't judge people if you have not been there yourself, you would appreciate these spaces if you had a child.0 -
