It sounds like you're banging your head against a brick wall in this situation. Your other family members simply don't have the same commitment to family as you do and the longer you go on trying to act in the ideal family "role model" mode, hoping your actions will be reciprocated, the longer you're going to be disappointed. Just don't buy them Christmas presents this year and start sending birthday cards with no money in them. And stop beating your conscience up about your actions. They're unlikely to challenge you over it but if they do, just reply airly "Oh, I got fed up being the only one in the family who cared so I've decided to be like everybody else." As you said yourself, you don't have anything in common with them. Even trying to maintain family relationships in such circumstances is difficult in the long term. Just stop trying to flog a dead horse and don't feel guilty about it.
  • Go on the world vision site and donate on there and order a personalised card to send to the relatives, starts at a fiver and you can gift aid your donation and the people in the developing world will get want they NEED.

    OR!!!

Request a catalogue and POST your order once you've browsed it - you'll be keeping me in a job that I love and desperately need!!! (I process all the returned gift cat orders). :A
