Wow, I have had a similar experience and can't believe what an idiot I was now. I had just come out of university (obviously doesn't give you common sense haha ;) ) and desperate for a job (I mean the WORST time to graduate!), saw this advert and thought I would go for it, as other graduate schemes with actual companies I know and have heard of were genuine and hadn't wgot past the initial telephone interview. the "company" I started with (lasted about 4 days?) were Oval Innovations [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM]in Maidstone, Kent and I won't even bother going through my "interview" process or how crap the "job" turned out to be as it is the same as everyone else here.

I'm so glad I got out while I could- I have loads of people I know and seen people on facebook talking about [TEXT DELETED BY ABUSE TEAM] and how they are happy about being whittled down from 200 applicants to just 12 (like they say to everyone I'm sure!) and I warn them, but some think it's different to what I have done. They aren't stupid and I'm pretty sure they'll get out soon enough (I hope they do anyway!)

I was told, like others, that my parents would be against it (they were unsurprisingly!) and told me standard answers to give when questioned about it. Thankfully, although my parents don't tell me what to do, I listen to them and when they had reservations I decided to be a bit more cautious. After walking around for 8 hours in the rain on an interview, without getting one 'customer' and having colleagues who seemed uninterested in anything I had to say, I decided to give it one more shot. I'm not the pushy type and so door-to-door sales isn't really for me and after 'going solo' for one day and having doors slammed in my face (unsurprisingly) I told my 'helper' I wasn't going back. he tried to convinve me that 'we are all a team here' and tomorrow he would help me 'realise my potential'- instead I stayed in bed and never went back.

Although I left because I realised I didn't have it in me to do that and i was depressed after just 4 days, i'm glad I did after reading these forums and understanding I'm not the only one to fall for something like this. they are so convincing and I can understand why people would!

Anyway, now i'm at a company that is fantastic, and have been promoted after 2 months so it's clear what a difference a good job makes!

Oh my god, I went for an interview with them as well! Went for an interview a few months back, is it the place above the sex shop? That made me think twice, when I finally went in, the guy interviewing me was very vague on what I would actually have to do and said the hours would be something like 10am to 8pm, which I wasn't really happy about. They phoned me up for a second interview but I didn't go.

I didn't realise they changed their name to [TEXT DELETED] until I applied through a job site for an interview with them, they emailed me directions to an interview and I realised it was the same place. Unsurprisingly, I didn't go to that one either.

    Another one to avoid is

    Cedar Direct in Nottingham

Are you able to expand anymore on this? They have arranged an interview with me today so I am really interested to know what I could be letting myself in for before making a big mistake...
Would be interested in hearing your experiances.

    Thank you :)

I wish I had found a thread like this back in 2003 when I went for an interview with a similar company. A member of staff took me out to "introduce me to the clients" and proceeded to take me a on a train to a town where we knocked on doors trying to get people to switch gas supply ... the door to door salesmen I HATE.

He then sent me off back to the office for my second part of my interview. I got on the train and went to see my fianc! (at the time, now husband)!. They shouldn't be allowed to blatantly lie like that.

  • Thank you so much for this thread!!!

I recently applied for two jobs in marketing via a Liverpool based job search. I applied for these late Thursday night(28th Jan) and to my suprise I recieved a phonecall on Friday afternoon from P & D Marketing inviting me in for an interview on Tuesday(2nd Feb). I was maded-up to get a call so quickly. Later that day I recieved a call from JMS Marketing also inviting me in for an interview on Monday(1st Feb). I read the e-mails confirming the interviews and found it a little odd that the two companies where situated in the same buliding. I thought nothing of it until I got another phonecall from JMS Marketing inviting me in for ANOTHER interview. When I explained that I'd already had a phonecall about this the girl said "We've got a trainee and she's not processed the call correctly"!! I agreed to the new time for the interview and was looking forward to the interviews. I was preparing for my interviews and began to research the two companies and shocked as what I found in this thread.

I've pasted the two e-mails I recieved so watch out for the signs of these bogus companies. Note that the date on the e-mail from P & D Marketing is incorrect. Another strange mistake. Needless to say I won't be attending the interviews.

    Hi XXXXXXXXXX,

We look forward to meeting you during your preliminary interview on 01/02/2010 at 2:00 PM. We have reserved a meeting with one of our Managing Directors. Please be sure you are dressed smart and have a printed copy of your CV with you so the manager has one during your interview. When you arrive, please ask for Shaun from JMS Marketing Ltd.

We anticipate the day being busy due to the number of people currently looking for full time work in Liverpool, so please keep us informed if you are running late or unable to attend. We will do our best to contact you if we run into delays; however you should clear at least 30-45 minutes for the interview including any waiting time.

Our managing director will want to learn more about your background and your career goals, so please be prepared to discuss these. The will also break down a more detailed job description, tell you more about the services we provide for our clients, and outline where you could fit in to our plans for 2010. Any specific questions you have about the role can be discussed with them.

We will not be making a final decision based on the interviews today. Some candidates will be invited back for a second, more thorough, interview where they will spend a full day with an experienced client representative. This day is an evaluation of the candidate’s work ethic, ability to recall information, and overall communication skills. It is also very helpful for the candidate since they are given the opportunity to observe the role and educate themselves about our marketing system. Once this full day interview is complete, we will look to make a mutual final decision.

We have included directions below. If you have any difficulties locating us, please do not hesitate to ring and we will navigate you. See you soon!

    Kind Regards,

    Lauren

the one above the sex shop in maidstone, kent you are talking about did change its name recently to JK Marketing Services (they took out the "P" so it won`t show up on any search engine probably) se beware as it is the exact same scam as the above mentioned ones.

    JK Marketing Services

Applied for building surveyor job ang got a nice walk on the streets of Longfield. Lovely jubbly :j

Hopefully this will help someone unsuspecting! ;)
  • Ouh ... and the name of the company "manager" is James. No , not Bond. Just James:D
  • Just to clarify. My daughter is going for an interview with JK Marketing Services in Maidstone today, is the scam that they are actually just taking the person on as a door to door salesperson with no salary, just commission. With no potential for advancement? I need to warn my daughter if so.
    Thanks
  • Gasp! Staggered to read that this old recruitment con is still going strong in the 21st century. They were using this technique back in the 1960s but back then you would end up going door to door trying to sell encyclopedias (Knowledge Industry) or vacuum cleaners (Luxury Goods) or household cleaning products (Hygiene Industry) all on the promise that you would soon be in management earning at least £3,000 per year - with money like that on your hip you can pull any tasty chick - as I was told by the sleazy ex spiv recruiter!
How much? You're having a laugh!
  • HI ALL! I have an interview with Arcedia tommorow. I am on a Gap Year and am waiting until October to start University. Even though it has negatives I am willing to give it a shot just to get me out of the house and doing something. Ps. Ill be knocking at your doors soon selling you energy hahaha
