It's good to know that we're all students (???? - re. the Radio 4 interview), and also that it really does cost the banks £35 - although they contradicted themselves before the Treasury Select Commitee.0

I so am living in hope we get this money back, i am in the same baot as other people and the charges have pushed me futher over drawn and in a no win situcation. Please if any one can support me through this, ie a email buddy that has gone as far as taking tha bank to court in case this happens, (with my luck it will), as this is quite scarry stuff. I would think my charges are as high as 1,000. many thanks and please everyone keep your fingers crossed for me.

Well I am really angry now. I've just been to the cashpoint and Nationwide have taken out the £400 charges, leaving me £300 overdrawn (more charges) and with £1 to live on until Friday. They must have done this after 5pm last night as I was checking my account online and thought I was safe. I'm so cross, that was really sneaky. Letter number 2 will be winging it's way to them on Monday morning.Total debt May 2005 £83,232

I hope that you threaten legal action in your letter if they do not return ALL the charges for the past 6 years to you within, say 14 days.
(standard letter can be found at https://www.bankactiongroup.co.uk - in the forum).0 -
I will do now, the first letter was asking nicely and they just ignored me and took the charges out without even getting back to me to let me know. What kind of service is that, I didn't really believe it at first but you're all right they are bullies of the worst kind who exploit those of us who, through no fault of our own, are struggling to survive. I'm so mad!Total debt May 2005 £83,232

I discovered this the hard way too - asking nicely, pleading and generally being nice gets you nowhere with banks.
It's a sad fact that getting angry and starting legal proceedings gets you everywhere.
It's a sad, sad world already - and banks contribute to that 'sadness' in no small part.
...and you are right - it's appauling behaviour from them - not even so much as a phone call.0 -
It's sad but true. Just because I'm a nice person, doesn't mean anything. I remember getting really cross with Lloyds a few years ago, I'd been with them for over 20 years and they treated me like dirt. I wrote them a stinking letter, after I changed my account elsewhere, saying I thought it was very sad that customer loyalty meant nothing any more. Needless to say, I never heard from them again!Total debt May 2005 £83,232
