No problem - I'm just getting paranoid.

I started the forum with another chap, as the bankchargeshell email group is rather difficult to follow.

Although, some of the forum members are aligning themselves a bit closely and doing some dangerous things.

After reading all of these comments and the comments with the bank action group I am 110% committed to making my claims. Once it is all over though; unless you are extremly careful with you finaces this could happen all over again and as much as I dislike it we need the banks as much as they need us!

Can anyone suggest any alternative methods of banking or are they our only option?

( I know it a bit of a strange question)

I am going to use the afore mentioned letter to barclays - has anyone had any experience with them yet?

    cheers

    Hi Beer Monster,

Yes I have had moderate success with Barclays. Got the copy bank statements quickly. Didn't have a lot to reclaim, but they replied quickly and put £50 back into our account. I have a small amount now (thought it was £50, but on looking back it is £25 ;eft as charges) so am deliberating whether to ask for this back too. I will more than likely let this ride, but write to them acknowledging the refund and the amount outstanding - just in case I need to revisit this!

    Good Luck

No, there is no alternative I fear. Our only hope is that enough of us pressure them to change their practices!

There is meant to be a review by the FSA going on, I think, and it was meant to report last year - so that shows how strong the banks are.

We just have to keep going for them.

    Hi

Just to up date everyone i have now started claims for

    Halifax - awaiting response to 1st letter - £1800.00
Capital one - awaiting response to 1st letter - £500.00
GE Money (store card) 0 sent 1st letter today. - £99.00

The credit ones e.g captial one and GE money i have asked for them to repair my credit score also as i wouldn't have gone over the limit if it was not for excessive charges.

Thanx for everyones help, has anyone had experience with these companies? anyone won?

    I just put.

Considering these charges are illegal, and my credit rating has been affected as a direct result of this, i request that you remove all bad ratings put on my credit report by you in the last six year.

Short and too the point, if they argue it i think dchurch has some info about it!

Quick question - is anyone keeping a 'score card' on these claims - you know like 'Comsumer 5 Banks 0' type thing ?

Erm perhaps you wouldn't have incurred the charges that took you over the limit if you had kept to the terms and conditions of your account and not got charged.

Erm perhaps if the Inland revenue sorted their lives out and didn't stop paying me when i had split with my partner and had two children to look after i might have been able to do that, perfect credit score before then.

Also why post on here if you are just going to put people down, i would hate to think what you would do if you were put in that situation.

Are you aware that terms and conditions are things that are imposed into your contract, and a contract isn't necessarily legal.

As posted on here many times before if they are so legal then why don't the banks challenge anyone in court, why do credit card companies give in straight away and why are the OFT investigating.

    Enough said i think!
