  • Hi Ruth,

    Don't panic!!

A lot depends on how many brochures you have and how you feel most comfortable at canvassing.

If your territory is anything like the one I was given then chances are that you'll be lucky to get 15/20% of your houses actually wanting to see a brochure. Out of 70 houses I only got 14 people willing to look at a book. (Because I only had 20 books I knocked, apologised for bothering them, asked if there was any interest at all, no obligation, big smile - and thanked them even when they said No...... ) Occasionally you will come across a 'friendly face' (big tip - let them know it's your first campaign and how nervous you are about the whole thing - you may find they're an ex-Avon agent themselves and they will spur you on!)

As you'll have read on here, some agents prefer just to stuff the book through the letterbox and come back a few days later. Both systems have their advantages/disadvantages - just depends which you're happier with.

If you can, it's a good idea on your first 'tour' to take someone with you for moral support. It can be demoralising when you get a lot of No's but stick with it; when you come across someone, who loves Avon and has been 'deprived of their fix for a while' you'll be surprised how the orders will fly in. Initially, it's just a matter of canvassing to find out who actually IS interested and who's not. (When I get told No, that's also part of my 'patter' too! :rotfl:)

    Good luck.

    Christine

  • This is going to sound really stupid but just want to make sure I've got it right. The Orange offer in C18, the customer for £5 gets headset and 2 sims and rep for £10 gets a phone and sims?

  • For anyone looking to recanvass with expired brochures, you might find this wording helpful. It can easily be modified after Christmas with something like 'and there's something for the kids too' instead of the Christmas bit. I print them 4 to a page and staple to the front of the book.

THIS IS AN EXPIRED BROCHURE, SO I WILL NOT BE COLLECTING IT, but If you’ve not seen an AVON book for a while, then you may be surprised at how much we’ve changed, with celebrity endorsements, branded goods, an extended product range, and more. Avon’s not just for the girls anymore either, we have an excellent and very popular range of MENS’ PRODUCTS. There is also a great range of CHRISTMAS GIFTS – no need to brave the shops as your order will be delivered to your door with no extra charge.

In the current financial situation, we all need to economise but would rather not compromise, which is where your Avon book comes in! Just have a look at all the great bargains, freebies and multibuys – over 200 pages of cosmetics, clothing, toiletries and gifts; something for everyone in fact!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE A CURRENT BROCHURE, PLEASE CONTACT ME ON ******, OR EMAIL ON *********; I’ll be delighted to hear from you.

Avon has an unrivalled ‘no quibble’ returns policy….if you’re not 100% happy with any item, then just return it for a credit or refund (even if you’ve tried it). Go on - give it a go…you have nothing to lose!

BTW, on the subject of expired brochures, I heard the other day of someone who was told at the tip that her old books were commercial waste.... Hasn't happened to me yet, thank goodness, but I always make sure that there is nothing on the book to identify me. I'm also quite discreet about putting them in the skip and make sure none of the council guys are close by.

  • Hey everyone! I have had a busy weekend, catching up with friends and so have been a few days late collecting my cats and the weather in Leeds has been awful!!! I have lots to collect tonight and was meant to collect some Fri but something came up and I have not been home since so going to do them tonight but think many of them will be ruined. Hope people haven't ordered!! I did see one on my way into work this morning but it was too soggy to pick up and bring to work. Lucky I have lots of spares for the rest of my round next camp.
Hate winter!! I am struggling to see door numbers and also can't see if people have left cats outside! I need a torch!!!
I put my old cats in the recycling bin, but we have had a strike in Leeds for 10 weeks now, they are normally in the middle of the bin so no one can see them!! x
  • So I plucked up the courage yesterday and posted my first lot of books, I ended up posting 38 - out of the two and a half streets I did I had one lady come out and say, 'thanks very much i'll probably place an order' another who said she already gets one elsewhere and gave me back my book and another who said 'I dont order from Avon so its pointless me keeping the book' - so not as bad as I imagined!
I've kept a note of the houses who weren't interested so I dont bother them again and I'm going to collect my books tomorrow, i've asked them to leave them outside to save me knocking and disturbing them, lets hope they do!
Question regarding the disposal of books? - We have wheelie bins which are for recycling only (and a regular bin obviously!) If I put my books into my recycling bin will that be ok?
