doesn't bother me knocking on doors-still only got one male customer tho and he's in his 50's.can't sell it to guys for some strange reason and i'm very perseverant-not pushy tho0

I completely agree with you Gemma. When I started, I knocked on doors, and the majority of people said 'no thanks'. However, a few months down the line, I accidentally 'forgot' and put a book through those doors anyway, and quite a number of the original 'no's' are now good customers.
If you put people on the spot, they'll usually default to 'no' as they feel cornered and don't want to let themselves in for anything dodgy. Also, many people find a knock on the door just as they're cooking dinner or watching Eastenders somewhat intrusive, whereas a book through the door allows them to make up their mind in their own time. Yes, you'll lose a few books, but that doesn't matter so much if you use books which will soon expire anyway, and at least you keep the goodwill.
I guess we're divided into knockers and stuffers
Good points, Elliebee, and a good tip too. By the time I deliver my next order it will be three months since I first canvassed my given territory (70 houses: 10 yes, 18 no's, 17 not in - gave up the ghost re. the rest!) Maybe time to recanvass.......
I have tried being a stuffer with my expired/soon-to-expire books but no success as yet via that route. Each to their own, I guess.

PS: Has anyone ordered/seen the 2010 annual planners yet (10 for £1)? Are they worth having/giving out to customers with their Christmas order as a little 'thank you for your support' type gift?Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon)

My OH is a great help in that regard. I 'drop in' for a quick half when he's out with his mates at the w/e when I've been doing my rounds and he asks how I've done. Breaks the ice and so far has resulted in quite a few orders. I work on the principle of "I hadn't realised how far Avon has come on in the last 10/20/30 years" and "Great pressies for the OH!" and when they say there's nothing for men, my OH then does his bit reeling off his fave products! :T (Do find it's best just to take addresses though and drop books off; they deffo don't like choosing in public.)
If you're a member of a Club (Liberal/Con/British Legion etc.) then they're great places to try too i.e. ask if you can leave books behind the bar....

Yep I'm a stuffer. In my area we have a high population of other nationalities who really don't understand much English. I decided I would just stuff through the letterbox so that they could have a look at a brochure0

I'm a stuffer
If I knocked on all of my doors, I'd never get around the whole territory.
Order is due to arrive tomorrow and It's a big one. I only have one problem this time and that is that I'm very busy this weekend with holloween costumes to make and a party to go to that I have to do all of my deliveries on thursday and friday night! It's going to be a very busy few days!
I'm going around all of my customers houses tonight to drop of slips that tell them their delivery day, time and how much they need to pay. I find that by doing this the customers are always in and generally have the correct money waiting. I have never in 3 Camps been asked to come back another dayC14 £129, C15 £126 , C16 £442:T, C17 £290, C18 £215, C1 £1200 -

Seems an odd way of doing it, why not deliver at the same time ?
We never have a problem with deliveries, its always on Thursday/Friday , we put the date on the slip with the books.0 -
Right must get motivated today. Got to print out slips to go into books for my new road, introducting me, with delivery date etc. Its a bit chilly here and all I want to do is curl up with LO and veg lol.0

When I deliver the slips I find that half of the customers aren't in, so I pop it through their post box. With the slip they are waiting for me to arrive the next day. Saves carrying orders around when I don't need to, and I get the correct money most of the time. I always turn up during the times I have told them as well.
It's a little bit more work on my part but the delivery process is a lot quickerC14 £129, C15 £126 , C16 £442:T, C17 £290, C18 £215, C1 £1200
