I am a mum of 2 young boys (2 and 6) and my husband works full time although he is on minimum wage. We get tax credits to top us up and i am wondering if anyone knows how earning with Avon would affect tax credits? Especially as its not a fixed income!

I get working tax credits and I am sure someone said on this forum earlier, that unless you are earning over £5000 a year, it doesn't affect your Tax Credits. Best thing to do is call them and ask general questions. To be honest, unless you have super sales, your probably won't earn more than that in a year.

I am considering avon because its time to do something for me! :T Since having the children i guess i have lost a lot of my confidence and friends drifted away so i dont feel like i have a life outside of the family and home and it is starting to get me down! I was the same except my company moved away so all my friends had to go and get jobs elsewhere and others worked full time. Avon has given me my confidence back.

I am studying for a degree with the Open Uni (Although my next course doesnt start til Jan) And with 4 hour school runs every day, i dont even know if i would have time to do it? Avon fits around you, not you around Avon. You do as much or as little as you want, to a timetable that suits you and your family.

My area is pretty bad though and i dont know if i would feel safe walking the streets at night - is there anyone who only drops during the day? I do! I am not going out at night collecting, dropping books, or making deliveries.

Is there a certain amount you have to get in orders? I was going to do ann summers before but i felt REALLY pressured to book 3 parties within the first week of being signed up and as noone was interested i ended up quitting and although i regretted it, i didnt like feeling too pressured! You need to put in an order of £78 each campaign to qualify for the discount, the more orders you get, the more money you earn. But that doesn't mean your SL is going to stand over you with a stick saying more, more each campaign.

Hi Lynette, :hello: welcome to the forum.

I thought it would be easier to reply to your questions then do a new post and reply. If you see what i mean, thought it would be clearer.

There is lots of help and support and advice on here, so don't worry about asking questions.

I started in March this year, as you can see from my signature, did abysmal first campaign and then it has just picked up and up. I am now a Sales Leader through choice.

I have a 2 year old DS and am a SAHM, stay at home mum, as my company moved and it was too far for me. Couldn't get a job, so chose to do Avon for the extra pennies and am loving it.

I get to work when I want, spend time with my DS and see my friends and I will be here at home to greet him when he starts going to big school. Everything I always wanted.

KazLa, if you want to start making a word document on useful hints and tips, go ahead.

We will probably find we can amalgamate the two once completed, as we will both have thought of different things that are of benefit.

I shall make a start then! I'll start collecting any hints and tips that I've seen on here, but if anyone has anything to add, pls pm or add to the forum.

    Well, networking really pays off!

Now me, I am happy to make baskets of goodies for any worthwhile charity or cause. So I said yes, I will see if I can make 3, need to check stock. She then replied, we have a little book that every parent has to buy to enter the fayre. Depending on committee, etc we will put an advert in for you and avon!!!whoop, whoop. And she has suggested I put my business card and books in the baskets.... whoop whooppp.

That's fantastic! Well done you. Something for us all to think about too...
Please could anybody give me an idea of how declaring the avon as a 2nd job will affect me tax wise, at the moment I work around 25 hours a week and earn £12500 a year, would it be pointless to carry on with the avon f I have to declare the tax, and how do I go about doing this.
    Thanks

As you're already earning enough to pay tax, you would be taxed on any profit you make from Avon - I believe this would be 22%, so if you made £10, you would have to pay £2.20 to the tax man, leaving you with £7.80 for yourself.

You need to keep some sort of record, as the more 'costs' you can put against it, the less you will have to pay...

e.g. if you buy sell £100 worth of Avon and pay Avon £80 for the products, then you have in theory made £20, but if you have driven 10 miles to deliver the books and orders, your can take 40p for every mile off the profit, e.g. 10 * 40p = £4, so you have then only officially made £16. You can also take any paper/printing costs off etc.

Hope this helps. You need to ring up to let them know you are 'self employed' - try the 'newly self employed helpline' - 0845 915 4515

"This helpline enables you to register for National Insurance, tax and VAT. They will also arrange for you to attend a free workshop with one of our Business Support Teams to help you get started. Opening hours 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, Monday to Friday
8.00 am to 4.00 pm, Saturday and Sunday
    Closed bank holidays "

    Hope that makes sense!
  • Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has designed a little leaflet thing for the Christian Lacroix moneymaker perfume?
And if you could possibly send it to me, it would save me a lot of time :-)

    Thanks xxx

Thanks for your useful advice last time I popped in, Aureol. Are there any reps here who also live in Spain? I'm still considering giving it a go! My other work is done from home, so it would be nice to do something that gets me out and about.

Hi Amber, nice to see you again. Glad you found my advice useful last time.

I asked my SL about anyone working in Spain and she doesn't know anyone. I know that some reps get orders from Europe and ship products out, but I don't personally know any of them.

One of my daughters teachers placed an order late. So I added the camp 15 order onto my camp 16. She ordered 2 for £4 skin so soft one of them being the £6 chest treatment. I had all the other things on her order put through as camp 15 but one SOS went through at 16 so I didn't get the £4 offer. So instead of being £4 ir makes it almost £8 . What can I do.
Also thought I ordered the gold ipod but it doesn't show on on my invoice.
As I am new and have reached my first two campaign targets I thought my sample selection would have been delivered with this my second order.
Oh and I had a box missing. Been on holiday and my previous Avon lady who I took over from kindly took it for me.Got home last night collected the order today. Thankfully only thing mising is my paper bags which must be the lost book. Had thought it might have been a nightmare just what I needed to come back to having been up for 24 hours and being jet lagged!!!
I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!

Avon operate in Spain, and as an American (English speaking) company, I'd imagine a lot of the ASMs there would too. I'd try contacting Avon Spain www.avon.es is the website as a starting point.
