Personally I am doing it as I already have 2 jobs (1 full time, 1 casual) and can't find a third at the moment.
There are no costs upfront - pay for your brochures, but you have to do that every campaign.
And any little bit of money I can get to clear my stupidly high debt I welcome with open arms!! Maybe the hours I put in aren't worth it, but I am enjoying it, it's stopping me spending money and I can't afford to turn down any job that will pay me!!!

My point exactly, couldn't have put it better myself! The company doing 'pretty good' is Avon, not you. Like someone else said, you will never become a millionaire doing Avon, the only real winners are Avon themselves. You have to PAY to advertise their products for goodness sake!

I did Avon for a few months, yes i could have carried on, but what on earth would be the point in that when i knew it was a dead loss after 2 or 3 campaigns? Who would i be helping? Avon yes, me no. I'm sorry but trawling the streets for hours on end with someone elses adverts which i paid for for about a tenner a week is not my idea of fun!! If it is yours, then i'm happy for you. I'm not saying you should stop, i just think that sometimes knowing when to give it up as a bad job is better than to keep going to try to prove something which (in my opinion) you never will.

you're talking to a pessimist and a giver upper and you obviously didn't listen to your SL/read the literature or you'd know what the possibilities are of earning plenty of dosh

I personally feel like this at the moment, I'm sick of chasing people with orders. I think I'm gonna do one or 2 more campaigns to let myself and my regulars stock up but I to have had enough of trawling the streets delivering and collecting books and knocking on doors of people who have ordered but never answer  At the moment I'm lucky to make £30 a campaign and it's not worth the effort and hours I'm putting in.

Trust me, i'm no quitter. Since giving up Avon i have started and still run 2 successful businesses where i earn far more than i ever did or (realistically) would ever do with Avon. I have tried Avon, Betterware, Usborne Books at Home and Phonix Trading in the past and all are much the same, hopeless if you actually want to make a real living. When i worked out how much i was earning per hour i was putting into these things, i was earning about 40p an hour! So no i am not ashamed that i gave it up, i'm glad of the fact that i took a business decision to think 'This is absolutely ridiculous and not going to benefit me or my family in any way' and i gave up and spent the time with my kids instead! :T

The only person getting rich with Avon is the man/woman/whatever it is sat at the top rubbing their hands together while all their slaves trawl the streets in the rain earning less than they would earn sewing sequins on in a third world country
  • It seems to me you think life is only about making alot of money! I have been an avon rep for 6 months and am making more money each campaign, and am now considering becomming a sales leader. I was ill for a few years and am still not 100% so avon gives me a chance to earn my own money and after years of relying on my parents I have a sense of independence.

I dont blame you one bit, do whats right for you and your family, not your team leader. I personally found mine acted like she had been 'Avon brainwashed' and could not see the wood for the trees as she struggled time after time to recruit people under her who kept dropping out/running debts up and of course when this happened she didnt get paid what she should have from these people.

She was constantly moaning about 'quitters' and people not putting enough into it to make her some money, but never seemed to realise the whole problem was not the people, it was greedy Avon making everything onesided for themselves by making you pay for their books, stopping her recieving her commission because other people opened their eyes and left her in the lurch.

A lot of people doing Avon are stay at home mums with young kids (as i was when i did it) and my team leader expected me to stuff my baby into childcare to put more into Avon. She failed to see that i wasn't out at work as i was staying at home with my child, and if i did any work from home i wouldnt be getting rid of my child to do so! That was just the last straw for me. Besides, the 'money' you earn from Avon couldnt pay for a childminder for the time you spent doing it!

Needless to say, my team leader was a good friend until Avon interfered in our relationship, but i'm afraid i got to a point where i just began to avoid her as it was the only subject she knew and it all got a bit blooming boring!! I sometimes wonder how many other friends she has recruited and annoyed/lost other than me. Last i heard she was considering giving up on Avon and has moved on to Virgin V.

No i dont think its only about making a lot of money, i think its about your family being happy and healthy. It's nice to also give them a treat now and then, and to do that i have to be self employed, but all i am saying is that if i am going to work at anything, i am going to make sure it is worth my while before i spend time on it, as time is too precious to waste on making the Avon boss richer! Would much rather be busy making my kids lives richer.

If I was a stay at home Mum I wouldn't mind so much but I work full time then spend evenings/weekends doing Avon and get little or no time to myself and not a lot to show for it. I've been doing Avon since September and my sales have gradually dropped since Christmas, before Christmas I was making maybe £6/7 an hour, now I'm making about £2  OH just said he thinks I should keep at it as we need the money even if it's just a little bit of money but it's really beginning to do my head in :rotfl: xx

Yay got another order from someone at work today, I just hope one of the bosses does order the new serum like she said she was thinking of as at least then I might just about reach my £400 aim!

Yes Avon isn't for everyone, but I work full-time shifts, as does my partner, neither of us can get overtime at work so we needed to find a way to make a little bit extra to save up for holiday/new kitchen/wedding. Obviously we know we will never earn loads, but so far we've made about £100 every 3 weeks which has been so helpful to us, and to be honest it hasn't been that much work as people are really good at leaving their books out and there are lots of people ordering. Plus, we've saved money on things we would have been buying elsewhere anyway which has also helped us. I think if Avon is the only thing you do, then yes it could seem a bit pointless as it isn't mega money - but if it's the only way to make extra money when you already work then it can't be a bad thing! With the hours we work it isn't like we could get extra jobs - not that you probably could very easily with things how they are.

i have been an avon rep for 15 years and no i have never made a fortune on it, i have a terittory of about 30 houses and i do reach my mov every campaign and do really well at christmas, any other time not very good and the reason i do it is because i love avon products and love the little excersize it gives me walking to collect and deliver, my children also help with packing the orders and delivering with me as its our time and they recieve a little gift of there choice from the books.Sometimes i do wonder why i bother and then i think of how many people ive met and become friends with while doing avon, im only 32 yrs old and enjoy the freedom i have doing it, it gets me out the house and meeting some lovely people.
