I am also after a bit more info on the whole Avon thing.

I live in a street and area that has a lot of 2 up 2 down (so 4 to a block) flats. So if I was assigned a whole street, I would have loads of flats to deliver too. Obviously each flat would need 4 books but that sounds like a hell of a lot of books I would need, how much do books cost me and when I collect the books, what do I do with them? Are they useless?

I would definitely like to sign up and give it a go, but I am trying to get in contact with my colleagues friend who hands in her book to my work. I don't like the idea of not being able to have my colleagues as customers as they are already with an outsider. If this woman signes me up, does she get commission on my sales? Was thinking of using this as a foot in the door to start putting myself forward as the Avon rep for my work. What do you think?

Also am I right in thinking that if I don't get over £78 of orders I get nothing?

    Thanks

This is from the Avon website:

Pack(s) No. of brochures Cost each Total
    1 5 brochures 63p £3.15
    2 10 brochures 42.2p £4.22
    3 15 brochures 32.4p £4.86

Brochures are in packs of 5, and as you can see, they get cheaper when you buy more. You can order as many as you want - I usually order 17 packs (85 brochures) for the 140 houses I deliver to. They cost me around £12 but I'm still currently earning around £75 per 3 weeks, even after buying one or two bits for myself.

The way to make the best use of your books is to divide your area into 2 and have one on the current brochure and the other on the previous one - that way you can get up to 4 uses from each book. Divide your area so that the number of houses gets progressively smaller; that way if you lose brochures on your first drop, you'll still have enough to do later ones. Sounds very complicated, but it's ok when you get the hang of it ;)

If the person who signs you up is a Sales Leader then she will get commission on your sales (I think it may be 5%, but don't quote me on that ). However, if she's an Area Sales Manager employed by Avon, then I don't think she does.

No! No commission under £78, but you may be surprised at how the orders mount up.

Echo - don't give up on your 'old folk'. They may take longer to trust you, but when you prove reliable they can be very good customers. Some of us 'wrinklies' like to make the best of what we haven't got :rotfl:

PS - sorry if the brochure prices are a bit confusing - it won't let me space it under the correct headings.

i've not given up on the oldies but i know that they won't order.i've 3 who did order but the others just aren't interested.they either live in flats/group dwellings or in a 'square'.the ones in the latter sit out when it's nice and i had a chinwag with loads of them last week and they said not to bother.ages ( not very good with em i'm afraid) maybe starting in their early 70's.one old lass whose door i knocked on a couple of weeks back was 90-her son answered.the 3 people who ordered last time picked a cat apron, roll on deodorants and shampoo-note no bubble bath!

what does everybody think about the way that the stuff is 'packed' into boxes??? i was absolutely disgusted yesterday to find everything thrown in.i had heavy things on top of my paper bags incl 5 books.battered boxes with perfume/make up inside and although i did mention it to people last nite they were ok about it.not ok if you've ordered perfume for somebody as a present mind you.i had one box that had a shower gel and an apron in it.common sense would tell whoever packed to put the paper bags etc in with them.

still no word from the ASM
  • Thank you both for your responses.

So with regards to ordering books, you say you order about 17 packs and it comes to about £12, where does this figure come from? If 3 packs (15 brochures) are £4.86? Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I want to know the bottom line before I sign up. I think I see what you're saying about splitting your area in 2. So I would have say 10 houses on the left side of the street on say C6 and the 10 houses on right side on C7 right? So when they are all finished with the cats, I continue on the left with C6 and the right with C7, is that right?

So what is the advice on the work situation? I currently work for a GP Practice and there are a lot of female employees that like Avon. My colleague has a friend that does Avon and takes in her friends cat every campaign. If I sign up to Avon, the first place I want to put my cat is here at my work. I spoke to some of the girls and they think I should do just that, as in just take over the selling, but I am really worried that it will be seen as steppig on toes. I don't want to be a b***h, but I don't see whay I should ask her permission either... What do you guys think? This is stressing me out loads!

    Thanks again

The Sales Leader earning does not reduce what the Rep earns though, it is paid in addition by Avon, so don't worry who signs you up.

Additional packs are at a lower price, that's how you'd get to £12.

You get charged £4.86 for your first 3 packs then every pack costs 48p

    So if you order 10 packs its £4.86(first 3 packs) + £3.36 (7x48p) = £8.22

(prices off top of my head they may be a few pennies out but principle is the same for working out)
  • Ah so each additional pack after 3 costs 48p, oh, that is much better, was beginning to worry there for a second.

So any advice on the work thing? I have submitted an online app to a sales leader in Aberdeen about an hour ago so shall see...

I'd just go for it. The decision is always with the people you work with. I have a few friends that already have avon from someone else and carry on and those who prefer to buy from me direct instead of through others.

I feel this way too, the only thing is I don't want people at my work to feel awkward, you know, feeling obligated to buy from me as I work there or vice versa, feeling obligated to buy from her out of loyalty to my colleague. I don't want to create a bad atmosphere, but I feel I could offer clients a lot more than she is. I work there so I know these people, I know what might appeal and I would like to offer incentives (not sure what that might be yet) I think it's a lot better than having to go through my colleague to get to the rep, when they could buy from me directly. Does that sound cold? LOL:confused:

  • Not at all cold! Maybe you could have a word with your colleague and say that you are doing avon and would like to bring a book into work yourself and would she object? Not sure if she is getting anything out of it?? I had the same situation where I am (did not know that the other person done avon until i brought a book in!) I just offered it around but said that if they already had from someone else I would not be offended.
