Avon Hints and Tips (Part 2)

Which reminds me, I WILL get around to putting up party plan hints and tips... I'm really busy, though, so I can't guarantee exactly when, other than this week sometime.
I made a notebook of all the tips off the old threads, so I had them all in one place.
Louise, hun, this forum is for everyone to pass on and ask for information on any aspect of Avon. We all have to filter out the information that we don't need or that isn't relevant to us... that's just how it goes, I'm afraid. I don't really know any friends and family hints, other than the following:
Don't just ask your friends to look at the book themselves, ask if they'll show it to other friends they have that you don't know.
Offer a free gift when you spend over £25 or introduce a new customer. You can stock up on these when the 5 for £5 offers are on (next one is C17). If you hit higher order value, they will cost you 75p each, but if it gets an extra or higher order its worth it. Or, make loyalty cards where you get a free gift or money to spend if you order so many times or so many consecutive campaigns.
Make sure people know you can match offers in other brochures that are circulating. This will never be more than one in front or behind. Stuff thats not out yet, you can order from Hello Tomorrow, stuff that's behind can be back ordered. If you are in or near a trendsetter area you will very occasionally have to take a small hit, but it's a small price for customer loyalty.
Consider doing pub parties or home parties to increase sales and your customer base. I know that you do already canvass local businesses.
Sell the same stuff, but in a different way; offer a gift-wrapping service, make up gift baskets, do Xmas list ordering (where you give ladies a slip where they write what they want, then give it to their fella. Fella phones you to order it and you arrange discreet delivery), just think outside the box a little - with Xmas coming up, your 'customers' aren't just people who like Avon, they're people who like people who like Avon!
At the end of the day, I'm pretty much as new as you are - I've been with Avon five weeks. What I know I've found by reading, asking, and experimenting. It is tough, but we all have some good luck and some bad, it's what you do with it that counts.0 -
Mornin' ladies,
Well after reading the whole thread, I'm thinking of signing up, could be the best £15 I've spent! Although I've seen a delivery man drop Avon boxes at 3(!) houses on my street, I've never had one through the door. Sounds like leaflet dropping would be good first.
We all know the old adage "you never work harder than when you work for yourself", but how many hours roughly would you say you're putting in a week doing this?
Hi Pinzy,
I have just finished my first campaign, so until I know what I am doing I am sure it will take me a few more hours then it will take the seasoned avon ladies, however here is my rough guestimate of how much time I spend on avon:
Dropping and collecting brochures (115 houses) = 3-4 hours, that includes going back a few times to people who were not in.
Filling out order forms = 40 mins
Online ordering = 2 hours - probably will get quicker as I get to know the products and the online ordering system.
* A tip here from my SL is to enter your orders online as you get them in rather than having to do them all in one go, also make sure you save all your orders online after each customers order or 2 just in case your internet or computer goes down and you lose an hour of work!
Sorting out and delivery customer orders = ? Haven't done that yet!

I was supposed to be doing my first Avon Party on Fri eve at home and was really looking forward to it but one by one everyone who was invited has cancelled! I only have 2 definate people coming now - so i am going to have to cancel. what a bummer!
I'm sorry your party hasn't quite worked out pippa - this happens quite a bit in this line of work unfortunately. However, if you have the time to do a party with the 2 people it might be worth it as they may become lifelong customers. Last year I did a phoenix party at christmas for a friend, and only 2 people showed up besides the host, but it didn't matter, we all had a good chat, had fun, and I still have those customers now, a year later, and one of them is my best customer! Plus, if you can convince one of the 2 people to host an avon party with their friends, you might get more from the night then just 2 customers.
Good luck

Sorry... another question!
I've read in a few places that when you get your delivery, some items may be missing because they're out of stock, but you still get charged for these by Avon. Trying to recoup that money is apparently quite a palava.
What's the skinny?
Thanks ladies
Hi Pinzy,
I received my first order last week (an additional order) I only ordered stuff for myself as there was a lot I wanted. One of those was the mother and daughter necklace, which I think is lovely, but it is completely out of stock, avon put a note in with my order to say that I had been charged but it will be re-credited on my next order, which it has, so I didn't have any palava, they sorted it. Shame about the necklace though.

aaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhh!!
I'm so angry, my ASM said he would drop books round to me yesterday so I can get started on campaign 15 (only 10 days late the w%&$#@ and after me chasing for over a week) and he didnt. Head office haven't got back to me with regards to the email and what was supposed to be a bit of fun extra money has turned into me being really frustrated! Does anyone have a contact person that I can email about this that will actually do something. Would love to call the fast trak line but 0845 numbers dont work from my office phone!!!!!!!!!!!
Any responses mucho appreciated!
I have a regional avon number for you which I got from saynoto0870 website: 01536 402402. The email I have used and have had responses from so far is: uk.contact@avon.com

Kat, I may have one for you if you would like it, but no promises! One of my customers has one in her delivery but I haven't got hold of her. If I can't get her by Saturday I can pass it on to you.0 -

I beg to differ louise, we don't ALL talk about SL's and ASMs. I am only a rep and I make a huge effort most days to answer every single person's query, if I know the answer that is. I haven't given lots of tips because I am new too, I have only been doing this for 3 weeks.
If you have any specific questions you want answering, please ask and I will be happy to try and answer them for you.
In terms of ordering, here are the items that I ordered for customers that I was able to back or future order to save a little money or to get some freebies, hopefully this will be helpful to you and others:
*Blusher brush £5.50 in C15 - £4.00 in C14 (£1.50 saved)
*Read my lips lipgloss £3 in C15 and Pencil play eyeliner £2.50 in C15 - deal in c14 by one get another for £1 = £1.50 saving (this works across the whole range, they are from the cheap make-up for teenagers, not sure what it's called I am afraid.)
*Cleansing pads £4 in C14, SOS body lotion £5 in C15, SOS face cream 50p in C15 (deal) - buy all three for £5 in C14 (£4.50 saved)
* Christian Lacroix Noir = £14 in C14 (£10.50 trade price at higher commission rate). You can purchase a set in HT14 at £10.50 but includes 2 free christian lacroix items.
* 2x Makaila Bags £16 in C15 (£8 each) - £15 for 2 in C14 (£1 saved)

That would be fab, thanks! It's not for a customer so not a huge deal, but I think it would make a really lovely present for a friend who has recently become a mum. Please PM me if you don't get hold of her and we can arrange delivery etc, (at my cost of course).
Thanks

I do talk about SLs and ASMs, but I didn't know there was anything wrong with that! As far as I'm concerned, it's about all aspects of Avon businesses, and they are a part of that... lets face it we all have an ASM, even if some are better than others! I know I sometimes slip into jargon, but if anyone asks I'll happily explain. And, like Kat, I go out of my way to answer anyone's questions who asks. Like when you have asked before.Yeah, I chat about Avon sometimes. I thought that was what makes this Avon thread better than any of the other Avon message boards out there. Sorry
Kat... it's worth checking out the contents of the gift bags too, especially the ones still available in Hello Tomorrow. I've got a few bits of Anew and Solutions free that way, plus a couple of toiletry bags.0 -
Hi Guys
Are there any men that read this thread that are reps / SL's /ASM's?????.........if so would like to hear what reaction you are getting from people when you say you are a Avon rep.
I have just completed my first camp 15 got £157.50 worth of orders so pleased with that. Now starting on camp 16 and been given an extra road to canvass. My only problem is that I now have about 180 houses to get round. I have noticed that some people do not leave the books outside as requested and they dont like you knocking on the door to get them back. I am now going to place a slip in the books asking if they still want me to drop a book off, if not then I wont bother with them again.
Now got to start to consentrate on building my team up, I had place the cards in the brouchers promotion the business but no enquires yet. Has any one got any other tips on how I can build a team????
Cheers guys.....Ian0
