I've just had a customer try to call me, at 10 at night! Thankfully I had the sense not to answer. 10pm! I ain't Tescos!

Kerriebaby - that's harsh news. Do go and get your books though, if anyone has told you that you can't they're wrong. They're your books and you're entitled to retrieve them. If you happen to get an order - great! Plus, when you knock on the doors to get your books back / or (hopefully) deliver an order - tell the customer that you won't be around again because apparently the street is already covered. You never know, they may tell you they haven't seen an Avon lady for months - if so, tell your manager. If they're any good they'll take the streets away from someone who's not bothering to cover them.

:grouphug: Are you able to use the bus and just do it at the weekends? You'd have to order more books to do it this way but it may be an option if you're desperate. It's not so easy to go back to collect books that way, so you'd have to go armed with calling cards saying "I came to collect your book today, contact me if you would like to place an order", and just drop them through if you can't get the books back.
Otherwise, keep in touch with the manager at least every month, checking if there's any new area free nearer you.
Hope the situation improves for you soon, I'd be fuming too if that happened to me.
    :)

Just put my second campaigns order in and including the bits i need like bags and books... it totalled £600 and a few pennies :D :j :j :j

    Im so happy with that!

I had a red cross for some power rangers pjs one my customers has ordered.... but i have a plan how to get round this..;)
  • Hi everyone

I was just signed up as an Avon Rep last Sunday & given copies of Campaigns 17 & 18 to distribute. My first order date is 3rd December. I've found reading this thread really helpful & borrowed a couple of your ideas. I've put an introductory letter in the leaflets I've put into letterboxes in my territory & put everything in freezer bags, asking that they leave them on the doorsteps on a certain date. I've also offered a free gift on orders of £20 or over "as an introductory offer to my Avon business" ;)

I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

    1. What item do you suggest as the free gift? Would a perfume sample be enough or should I look for something a bit more substantial?

    2. I live in a small village & asked for territory. My SL applied to the local AM on my behalf & found that all my village is covered by a lady who I know's been doing Avon for at least 25 years. I know this means that I'm not allowed to canvas round here, but I've been living back here for 7.5 years now & never once has an Avon book come through my door from her. We suspect she doesn't canvas, just has her regulars & I know from the AM she's in the President's Club & put a £800 order in last campaign. So what to do? A friend has suggested that I go & see her & ask if she minds me canvassing the half of the village I live in. There's a lot of Council houses & a lot of ppl on benefits in them, but they may like the odd bit of Avon. What do you guys reckon?

    3. I've been given territory at the top of the village, 2 streets of new dwellings. I thought there was 45 houses on a quick count up, but turns out there's 4 blocks of 4 flats. Most of them look empty tbh. I didn't have enough books to put in their mail boxes but thought instead I might make a more detailed flyer up & use that instead, saying that if they want to look at an Avon book just phone or email me & I'll drop one off. Do you think that's the best plan with blocks of flats or risk a brochure towards the end of the campaign?

    4. How long do you find is best to leave the brochures with customers?

Thanks everyone in advance & for the tips I've picked up so far.
  • This is a really intersting thread, thanks guys. Have been thinking about joining for a while.
  • Welcome Woooooooosh

I think most people here buy from the clearance section for their free gifts, plus as you go on you'll acquire all sorts of freebies which you can use. It's always worth looking at the clearance gift sets as you can often get 5 or 6 gifts out of one bag (don't forget the bag itself, with a couple of perfume samples inside, would make a gift too)

With regard to doing flyers, I tried it but having leafletted 40 houses and got no response, I then took them over officially and put books through the door and got 4 orders. I think most people can't be bothered to make the effort!

You're probably right about the other lady just doing her existing customers, so it would certainly be worth asking - it would be much better if you can work with her, as you never know when you might want her help if you run short of order forms or something :p

I leave my books for just 3 or 4 days. I find that any more than that and they all forget about them, and certainly that was my experience as a customer. However, I know that other people on here find that it is better to leave them longer. I think it's really a matter of trial and error and finding what works with your area.

    Good luck!

  • My SL was all sweetness and light when she wanted to sign me up, but I've barely heard from her since.

ASM was OK, but is moving to another area this week, so the new one is an unknown quantity!

I tend to leave my books 3 or 4 nights.. I ask people to leave it outside but if they dont i knock back that evening at every house that hasnt. i do find some people have forgotten about it and i sometimes get people say "i havent had a chance to have a look" - with these people i always offer to call back 2 days later so they can have longer to look :) Have quite a few people that have then ordered then as youve "prompted" them and probably feel bad your coming back "especially" because they forgot ;):rotfl:

I havent given free gifts yet but plan too this next campaign... i have looked through my past orders and found the naturals range are popular so im probably gonna buy them as free gifts... i was thinking maybe buying the room and linen sprays - that way its unisex, doesnt matter on skin tone/sensitive skin/preference of perfume..... and many of the scents match the rest of the range if they like what their room smells like they may order the body products in that range! PLUS if a visitor asks what smells so nice... they can become a potential customer! ;):p *jo realises she needs to get out more and stop thinking so hard about avon*

Re. managers - so far mine's been fab, but saying that, we've never gotten round to doing the last 1 hour visit, and I'm still waiting for my free product from her for getting over £150 on my first campaign.

    Just triple checking..
MOV includes every single thing you've ordered, yes?
MOV goes on the Customer price, not the cost to you price, yes?

Just wanna make sure.. I want more of the new rep prizes!
    :)
  • Thanks Ellie & Jo for your replies, they certainly help loads :)
