Some people are just like that, they'd rather have newer and better than fixed and cheaper (my sister's one of them). Not very moneysaving but no point getting angry at them and potentially scaring them away from the forum just cos they don't take your advice.
Personally I agree and, for that price, I'd get the old one fixed regardless of whether I actually wanted a new one, if nothing else they can then flog it to meet some of the price of the new one, but it's their choice, their money.
Don't worry, they weren't scared away.Remember, they are part mouse, so bound to be a bit nervous at first.
But the other part of them is capable of rational thought.
I don't think that were worried about the money, but the safety aspect.
Either way, we'll offer the best possible advice....maybe sometimes served with a little Tabasco sauce.0 -
Thanks donnie
I may not have given you the whole story! The dell was like that prior to the kids spilling juice on the keyboard! It now needs a new keyboard and the mousepad is knackered!
That is why the bill to fix is 150!
If I had looked up this forum before the juice incident I may have been fine!! But now will try the house accident insurance and buy a decent new laptop!
I will keep an eye on the deals posted but if you have any recomendations on what spec to expect for £400 or under I would be grateful.
I see you have had a few arguments on here but from my reading and experience completely undeserved and thank you for your help on behalf of me and hundreds of others!0 -

We can take care of software issues from here, but there will definitely be a benefit in someone taking a look at the hardware.
What do you use to 'clean up'?0 -
Thanks donnie

I don't mind a bit of debate. It's a way to learn.
Let's know when the insurance company coughs up.
There is also the possibility to buy a laptop similar to your daughter's, for £235 and to run low cost upgrade to Windows 7; if you are on a tight budget.0 -
Hi, just popping in to pinch a bit of opinion.
My OH has scoured the 'under £350' MSE page (incidentally, the Compaq that was £360 is now being sold for £379, so it could do with being updated) and he's had an independent look as well.
His main stipulation is a CPU of no less than 2 ghz, and mine was an actual mouse pad with buttons :rotfl:
He thinks this is the best bet for us http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro_C650D-115_Windows_7_Laptop_PSC16E-00E007EN/version.asp
Does anyone know if this is a good price, if the website is reputable or are we missing a trick and we should go with something different?
Thanks for any adviceI love surprises!0 -

That laptop(or close to) has already been mentioned in post #857.0 -
No.
Wasn't the problem with the Toshiba fixable? I think that you were quoted £30. Together with courier fees, that would be no more than £50. You can then downgrade to XP.
Hi Donnie, the only response to post #857 was the above which is not related to the PC for sale, but rather their PC for fixing?
Sorry if I'm not understanding properly. Thanks for any help though, I can see looking at this page that you're the wo/man in the know!I love surprises!0 -

To add to JDPowers post, laptopsdirect has been mentioned several times on this forum, not always in a good way.
e.g. long running thread, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/229570Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thanks for your help. Should we go back to the MSE page and try again?I love surprises!0
