I'm about to buy a Lenovo G555 (refurb) for £260. I'm hoping someone techie can answer a question for me as, after extensive research, I can't find the answer anywhere. It says it comes with 2Gb RAM (which according to Crucial needn't be matched pairs). I want to know whether this is 2x 1Gb modules or 1x 2Gb module, as I will def want to add another 2Gb at some point (possibly immediately, depending how fast it turns out to be!) If no-one knows/can find the definitive answer for this specific laptop then can you tell me what is generally the manufacturers preference in this case, as it doesn't have to be installed in matched pairs. Would they go for one 2Gb module or two smaller ones?
I want to order lappy today, so if there's any better specced deals out there (not Acer!!) within £30 of this price then I'm still interested in looking at them.2021 Targets

I think you that already have a good idea of the answer to your question. But since you need confirmation;0 -
There were two possible answers which is why I asked.
Sadly this isn't the answer I was hoping for, but it's still a good deal.

This MSI CR610 at £300 is almost within budget and fits your criteria.
AMD Turion 2 Ultra dual core M300 processor.
2.00GHz processor speed.
4GB DDR2 RAM.
16in screen size.
Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.
320GB SATA hard drive.
Multi format dual layer drive.
ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics.
256MB graphic memory.
Multi card reader.
3 USB ports.
e-SATA port.
Bluetooth.
HMDI.
1.3MP webcam.
802.11 b/g/n wireless enabled.
Windows 7 Premium operating system installed.0 -
I think I looked at that one. I don't know anything about MSI though and there was only one (useless) review on the Argos site. :undecided Think when I was researching the MSI didn't seem to be considered to have a very good battery life. However, it would probably be a better deal than the Lenovo + extra RAM. Hmm...2021 Targets

MSI like ASUS, manufacture computer parts. They are also the manufacturers behind a lot of the machines marketed by the big brands.
Won't cost you anything to evaluate it for seven days.0 -
So assuming spec for spec comparability, would you choose a Lenovo or an MSI? We already missed the Toshiba we were looking at yesterday so I want to get on, order something, and get it set up.2021 Targets

Have no idea, as I haven't put my fingers on either of them and also have no experience of their build quality.
The only way that you will find out, is to get on and order one in order to put it through it's paces. If it doesn't suit, send it back. Perhaps one of the Toshibas would have turned up by then.
Personally, I would at least take a look at the MSI, as it just offers more for your money.
More RAM, higher capacity HDD, higher quality webcam, e-SATA connection, slightly larger screen, Integrated Bluetooth...0 -
After discussing options with DS, we have decided on MSI. As you say, better spec, which I couldn't get for the Lenovo for only £40. Just got to try and get e-bay to let me buy it now! :rotfl: I've never bought/sold on e-bay before and it's asking me to set up a seller account and jump through all sorts of hoops just to buy something!! :mad:2021 Targets
