Sub-£350 powerful laptops discussion

Hi, im looking for a new laptop to replace my 6 year old dell laptop which is starting to show its age.
It'll be mainly used for internet browsing, excel and iplayer/movies. I tend to have a lot on the go at once which is where my current laptop is really struggling. It'd also be good if it could play the 1080p video from my camera, which my laptop can barely manage. I'm not bothered about short battery life or if it's heavy/bulky, so happy to compromise there if it means I'll get better performance for my money.
I'd originally set a budget of £350, but if I can get a suitable laptop for cheaper that'd be great. There's so many different versions of processors and I know very little about them so I've found it hard to compare laptops. However this seems to have a decent processor for the price and 6gb ram which should be enough.

Any opinions on this? Or suggestions for significantly better laptops under £350?
Thanks
What is the Service Tag on the DELL? My five year old laptop plays Full HD material.
Have you maxxed out the RAM/used a differing Media Player/run a clean install?
The HP above wouldn't be my choice.0 -
I was looking at the Dell website before and they have a Dell Inspiron for what seems a incredibly low price of £199. Intel Celeron Processor, which I know isn't the best. Windows 8.1. 4GB memory. 500 GB hard drive
I also currently have a Dell that I've had since 2009. Pretty basic model (again Celeron processor). Very happy with it though since it meets my pretty basic needs like surfing the net and banking and ordering DVD's and watching iplayer and Youtube videos, etc. However, once it packs in, I think the one above would more than meet my needs.
It's great laptops are becoming so much cheaper.0 -
Have lost track of this thread since I posted 3 years ago, but just wanted to post a follow up. I was recommending a Medion Akoya P6613 laptop as very cheap and powerful and asking for any views. Well, the laptop suffered thousands of miles on a bicycle over London's bumpy roads, commuting 50 miles a week for two years, and then more thousands of miles on Africa's even bumpier roads by buses, motorbikes, etc. It had a tough life by any standards and handsomely survived 3 years of daily heavy use including music, DJing and software development, office hours and at home. Battery was still lasting an hour, I didnt replace any parts. After this 3 years of heavy, daily abuse the webcam died and microphone was glitchy but everything else is still working brilliantly, and it is still a great backup machine.0

Time and date not working though.

Hello all,
I'm looking to buy a new/refurbished laptop, less than £300, for daily commute to work. Doesn't need to be anything particularly shiny - simply enough to run basic programmes and something that is relatively lightweight. Does anyone have any recent suggestions? I don't care about make or model (except not Acer), but have found a Toshiba C50-B-14D 15.6" for £230 at Currys that I thought looked good.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Kait0 -

Medion Akoya E6234 £170.99
Probably not important to you, but the Toshiba doesn't have a DVD drive.0 -
Same here, any suggestions around £300 mark would be appreciated.
My daughter needs one for homework. She mainly needs a Word processor so not sure whether MS Word is needed. Therefore could opt for OpenOffice.

Hello, I am hoping somebody can help me out please. I'm looking to buy a new laptop, one that will really only be used to type up assignments. I have an iPad for the internet but need to use Office software for uni.
I have about £350 -£450 to spend as it will probably last me the rest of my life, after uni I'm unlikely to type up assignments! Yay!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.0
