thanks :) yeah it was nice to achieve something computer related as i dont have much techy confidence. theyre a local business so can always point people in their direction if they have IT problems, word of mouth is important in business. :) yeah its vista i'm running :)

Word of mouth is nice.... but paying him something is even better. There is money saving and there is taking advantage...
If you have a problem in the future, he may be much more reluctant to help you out without a deposit.
I didn't ask if it was Vista you were running... but whether it was (Home) Basic, Home Premium...

i cant pay anyone anything til payday and he knows this :) to be honest i think trying to charge £60 to clean out a fan is trying to take advantage, i know businesses have to make money but thats a bit ridiculous.
    its basic

Perhaps £60 was a bit much...

  • Hi I am looking for a new laptop £350 being top end of my budget. I was looking in tesco at Acer Aspire-571 15.6" laptop 8gb RAM memory for £349 - is this good value like the salesman said? lol or just a good sales pitch?
    TIA :)

Never trust a salesman ;) There's a few good deals floating around at the moment, though the best couple are slightly above your budget (eg HERE and HERE), and potentially more than you might need (you don't say what you'll use it for)

Its really for family use - kids for homework, me for shopping ;) ! Not gaming or anything like that really. Thanks

Depends on the rest of the spec, but 8GB for £350 isn't bad.

Edit: just seen your most recent post. Although it's not a bad price for 8GB, it's probably overkill for what you want to use it for.

Perhaps this thread should be renamed "sub £300" powerful computer...

Current 2 good laptop deals are:-
    1. HP 650 (i3-2328M, 320GB disk 4GB RAM) £248 (or less) after cashback
    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/HP_650_Cor_ei3_Windows_8_Laptop__C5C49EA/version.asp
(Also buy +2years extra warranty for £35)

    2. Compaq CQ58 (spec as above with 500GB disk); 2 year warranty included; £294 using voucher VC8ALL until 28th April
    http://h20386.www2.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?sel=PCNB&id=ECC_BUNDLE_3836469&opt=&p=promos

Both of these may be the subject of cashback discounts with Quidco/TCB.

While I'm here, a good DESKTOP is a Dell i3-3320, 1TB disk, 4GB RAM, wireless, 2 years next day warranty; £263
    www.hotukdeals.com/deals/cheap-dell-desktop-pc-i3-3220-3-3ghz-3mb-ivy-bridge-4gb-1tb-wireless-262-80-del-1535235
(or buy TWO code SBDS321 for £224 each)
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.
